So if he was saying it was going to be developed anyway, why would they need to give a bunch of tax breaks to Amazon? If this is only a fraction of the jobs, why would that matter since the area is going to be developed for business anyway? DeBlasio's aid doesn't really seem to have a point. It just sounds like he's bitter.

cost them 23,500 jobs, aka .6% of the jobs in NYC.

AOC is very trump like in that she never apologizes even when its blatantly warranted.

So.. since you live closer to Ontario than long island City, why don't you start posting about Mississauga politics or otherwise cease and desist with the bloviation?

No one cares re your thoughts on this.

Are those jobs for the constituents in her district?

Tax breaks for attracting out of towners just so you have less tax revenue for the actual public school district and infrustrcture that her constituents actually use seems like a loosing proposition for her actual voting constituents.

No point in attracting high quality jobs in your district if you need to first make sure the kids in your district have the education to obtain those high paying jobs. All this seems to accomplish for her constituents is less money for the services they use and more traffic from out of town commuters and possibly a influx of wealthier people moving into your district, increasing the property value of those already living there which increases property taxes which leads to those who currently live there being pushed out.

She opposed giving freebies to billion dollar corporations that are corporate welfare queens. In reality there are a lot of New Yorkers who hold that position but the dork Republican peanut gallery tried to directly tie Amazon's decision to AOC because they despise her ability to organize. Hence this dumb thread.

HQ2 was supposed to employ 25k people, this move will employ 1500.

Amazon is renting the space from Hudson Yards, which received $1.6 billion from the Empire State Development Corporation for construction. Hudson Yards also gets $1.36 billion in tax breaks.

So …. Where's this win you are eluding to ?!

Rather than tax breaks equaling $120k per job , its $906,666 per job.

The win is for the actual constituents who live there who is isn't the target audience for these new jobs. The jobs are meant for transplants and commuters. So what good does it do for the actual residents in her district when all it seems to accomplish is siphoning tax revenue from services such as public education and infrustrcture that they actually need?

Fair enough since its no longer in her district.

But there are $1.36B in tax breaks for 1500 jobs instead of $3B in tax breaks for 25k jobs - The former equates to $906,666 per job in tax breaks , the latter $120k per job in tax breaks.

Seems to me she felt that Amazon coming to NYC was the win …. not that her constituents were no longer footing that bill.

    lol
I get it she saved new potential amazon workers
Not the warehouse , it was a corporate office with jobs , from getting super rich from those options they would get as an employee.

Corporate jobs especially amazon with options pays really well

I understand the majority of people on the D&D hating working and hate jobs

And the vast majority of the people she serves in her district don't have the qualifications for that job hence instead of providing tax incentives for these massive corporations to move in, she would rather just allocate more money at the state and federal level for increased funding for the local school districts and other community programs to actually eventually creates a community that can qualify for those type of jobs.

That corporate building would do little to serve her actual constituents. Most of the jobs are going to be given to people outside her community.
