https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a23471864/devin-nunes-family-farm-iowa-california/ What a shock? NOT! DD
I've only skimmed the article but I can tell from first hand experience in rural Minnesota and the CA Central valley that without undocumented labor the agricultural sector would collapse. Reps Steve King is the worst. He knows that his district demographics have greatly changed due to the numbers of undocumented workers there so he is campaigning on the xenophobia that has engendered. Nunes is a hypocrite but he's also very irresponsible as the ranking member of the intelligence committee. It's one thing to not agree with impeachment and put the counterargument but the way he has done it, continuing to rehash conspiracy theories directly countered by witnesses, insulting the chairman of the committee and Democrats continues to poison the House and the US as a whole.
These ****ers know some "job creators" dip under the table. Wasn't a surprise when Donny did it again and again. Why can't Those People wash my dirty laundry then GTFO?!????
This is what drives me crazy about political discourse. Its become this stupid debate about "let in no one in because my dirt poor constituents are offended by the fact Telemundo exists and I hear Spanish in Walmart" versus "let everyone in". We used to have a program called the Bracero program for migrant worker. Here's the thing- picking fruit for $4 an hour or at a poultry factory is subhuman and unlivable here. In some parts of the world? Thats a middle class wage. Because poor whites complained we got rid of those programs; but ideally what we would do is have latino/asian/african migrants come and work very cheaply to keep agriculture afloat while its in season (3-6 months) and then they go back. The issue is once we got rid of the program, startes building walls,ICE etc. ppl realized its not worth the risk of deportation every migration season; so they bring their families and everyone loses. Familial ties are lost. Cpuntless rural villages in Latinoamerica were decimated; and their economies suffered (imagime if the entire US middle class disappeared one day- EVERY industry is affected). Plus the US taxpayer gets ****ed. Instead of letting in one ag worker who works a few months on substandard wages (which again are more than livable back home); they now have to support with public assistance his whole family who would have been propserous in Central America/Mexico if we allowed more seasonal workers
