Out of curiousity, did most people on here like the acquisition? I think he was putting up decent numbers 18/6 at the time and given his age, I guess fans would expect improvement.
Personally I was very pleased, but when we resigned him, I was a little pissed, Wasnt that the same year Cwebb was a FA? I liked that he was a 15-6 guy, but he was a little weak on the boards, but thats what KT was here for.
I think Mo T is a great 6th man and puts ina good contribution to the team. Sometimes I find his play a little frustrating because he seems to jack upa shot every time he gets a touch of the ball, buta again, a good 6th man who can put up good number if we are hurting offensively
At the time, the board was mixed. Some people said we had nothing to lose with a 1 year, 1 million dollar deal (or maybe it was 2) for a talent young forward. Some people said it was a waste of time getting a one year renegade that couldn't rebound and who wouldn't be a long term solution. And the rest were just pissed because he took too long to decide to accept the 1 year exception just like Shandon Anderson the year before.
Most were very happy, but we all felt that we needed a bigman that can get the board so Steve doesn't have to. When he signed for the big money was when the board was divided. Some felt it was ok since he basically played 2 years way below value so we looked at it like it was more of a 7 year deal instead of 5 and we were ok with that. But there was also a lot that wanted to reward him with a different team paying him a la Shandon. I still think he is young enough to get better. Maybe kind of a Kurt Thomas type (not in playing style but in value), a little expensive 6th man that eventually turn into a solid starter near the end of his career.
Most were really happy with the signing. It was a really cheap contract for only a year. Plus we stole him away from the Sonic's, which at that time was an added bonus.
From what I see of MoT is a very skilled player who can rebound but doesnt expend the energy or go after them when they dont come his way. He doesnt have butter fingers like Yao and can squeeze them and jumps fairly high. He would be a viable starter if he worked on his passing and hustle, two things that can easily be improved upon.
I wasn't so happy when they re-signed him because they gave him a lot of money and at least partly because of that, we lost Hakeem. Also, just to rub it in, Mo T promptly tore his achilles and couldn't play that season anyway. Wish we could've kept Hakeem...
Sounds like a good description of me. There was one noted BBS member who kept claiming that Mo would eventually get the hang of rebounding. If you look at his statistics, his rebounding has improved only marginally over the years. A rebound roughly every 5 minutes this season. 27.6 (Avg minutes per Game)/ 5.3 (Rebounds per game) = 5.2075 minutes per rebound Career: 27.3 / 5 = 5.46 minutes per rebound <a HREF=http://www.nba.com/playerfile/maurice_taylor/">Maurice Taylor
Clarence Weatherspoon Numbers (with Rockets) this season: 15.8 minutes per game/ 4.3 Rebounds per game = 3.67 minutes per rebound. Career: 31.3 minutes per game / 7.8 rebounds per game = 4.01 minutes per rebound
Clarence is older, shorter and looks like he has less ups than Maurice, but he can rebound better than Taylor.
Sadly also known as KT the Brick. KT is flourishing where he belongs, in the Leastern Conference. I loved the man's hustle, but if you can't make a mid-range jumpshot consistently, we don't need you next to Yao Ming.
HOnestly I thought he sucked. He did not rebound worth a damn for a man his size and play defence even worse. with that said, I am happy to see him and Cato FINALLY play with some attitude and grit.
I dunno toward the end His Mid range was becoming money not MO T level but much improved. KT was the GRUNT we needed next to yao Someone to throw and elbow and to SNATCH a rebound Rocket River
You do realize that you are also describing Stevie "The Franchise" aka Senor Starting Guard as well...
Mo Taylor should be the starting PF and have Cato back up Yao with Spoon backing up Taylor. Mo would be more effective as a starter becasue he could get his shot going early and teams won't back off of him as much or as often as they do with Cato. If Taylor starts Yao won't face as much defensive presssure and he could also get going early too. Spoon has earned his time on the court so his role as the back up PF would give the Rockets the rebounding and toughness they have been missing. You pair spoon with Cato and you have a great defensive tandem off the bench.
Well he still basically sucks as a rebounder and he's a fouling machine on defense. I'm simply not that impressed with him - for what they're paying him he should be a lot better. His scoring looks better than it is because their guards are so terrible.
i was pleased.. cause when the rockets were playing the clippers.. they couldnt guard maurice at all.. he was a beast
I was excited and thought he would really shape into a terrific PF. Then he got hurt for a season. He hasn't quite lived up to my (lofty) expectations of him, but he's still one of my favorite Rockets. He gives a great interview and he gives more effort out there than people give him credit for.
I believe KT is among league leaders in rebounding this season playing 37 minutes a game for the Sixers rebounding more than 10 boards a game. Impressive.
