Well they also havent gotten blown out like that before either. Bruh....cmon lol. In a perfect world im sure itd be like that haha.
Yep, I remember. There isn't a Melo to fire this time. And were they this bad on defense? They weren't a good team, but I don't remember them letting a team like the Wizards shoot over 50 from 3 on them, and over 60 from the field. This looks worse than last year, and there isn't a good explanation for it.
of course it is. Too many worry about every single game. We just need to qualify for the Playoffs and we are a threat
Typically it is too small of a sample size as others mentioned, but they have been consistently bad at the same things, and I don't see them changing unless they hire a new defensive coach or make trades. The issues dont appear as if they can be fixed with the current personnel. When comparing against the spread, they have not been close, they are essentially being blown out every game and standing at what 0-6 ATS?Vs what the expectations and numbers said, they are tremendously under performing. It is currently difficult to predict how they will do because you are having to analyze their opponents given a small sample size as well, and we don't know how good or bad teams with correctable issues are, or having injured players return etc.
They have played like garbage on defense for five games in a row. If last night was the only poor defensive effort, I’d be more inclined to give the Rockets a South Beach pass. But, it’s not. Also, the Rockets are professional athletes and playing well on the basketball court is their job. Being out late the night before a game partying is not an excuse for getting their butt kicked.
FACkkk yes... nearly not enough evidence if the Rockets suck RN or not.... Next atleast half the season.... 76 games... we are barley scratching the surface.
Thats fine, im just saying weve never gotten blown out like that before even to the Bucks. So just chill, teams are hitting historic percentages against and we are shooting trash, ittl even itself out. Then we'll find out what we really have. Yea I get it, but if your expecting athletes to be some pristine models of professionalism then you aren't being realistic.
I’m not worried about the Rockets’ offense. They had an off night in Miami, and that’s why they got blown out. However, it’s no accident that teams are hitting historic percentages against the Rockets so far. It would be one thing if teams were just making a bunch of contested shots, but that hasn’t been the case. The Rockets are allowing a ton of wide-open shots. Now, yes, their opponents won’t continue to hit wide open shots at the rate they have so far, but, unless the Rockets’ stop giving up so many easy looks, their defensive woes aren’t going to go away. I don’t expect athletes to be pristine models of professionalism at all times, but I do expect them to take their job seriously. Partying hard the night before is not an acceptable excuse for getting your ass handed to you on the court, ever.
Well said. James has looked a bit heavy so far, but it's not super surprising since most of his weight training and strength building was prior to the season starting. The NBA schedule is much more cardio intensive and he should slowly shed off some pounds as the season progresses.
I mean defense is bad...but its not as bad as we've shown, combine that with the fact that we are six games in and we had a crappy start last year. AND we are the oldest team in the league. Its not time to start panicking yet, a little positivity wouldn't kill you bro. You can go full negativity if we get blown out tonight. I never said it was dude, im just saying its a long season and partyly explain why they got the crapped kicked out of them last night.
I think we also have an unusual case where opponents are shooting lights out on contested 3's. This was not the case last night as we saw, and Memphis missed a lot of shots. This will help moving forward as well. I made this yesterday, so I'll leave it here now: The Rocket's have been somewhat consistent in both offense and defense, especially when you factor out the Washington game. By no means is the defense good mind you, but it shows that we are getting roughly the same outing night after night. There's room for improvement for sure. Now, looking at the landscape here, if the Rockets can just improve their defense to be net neutral (or a middle of the road defense, ranked somewhere near 16) they have a chance to be as good as the Clippers sans PG. That isn't bad company. All of these things are doable in the scope of an 82 game season, even without dramatic roster changes, and if Houston can do this without sacrificing their offensive efficiency they will easily be better than the Clippers and a lot of teams of that caliber. This is a comment of the numbers however, not the will of the coaches, players or staff. All I'm trying to illustrate is that to these "gloom and doom" fans out there, we aren't miles upon miles upon miles away. Does that mean the Rockets will fix things? F^ck no. It just means they can. (Please note, Kirk's rating system weighs offense more heavily than defense. I think that's a flawed approach, so I'm not fond of his "overall" rankings. The team with the most blocks doesn't win the game, the team with the most points does. So, I personally don't weight that too heavily. I do, however, like his relative rankings for offense and defense.) Edit 2: this is a chart detailing ratings including last night's game:
