Astros better jump all over them early. Dont get overconfident when their star is out like another Houston team I know.
The Stros can beat anyone if they are up for the challenge and they can just as well lose to anyone if they are not so I’m not getting all worked up because Sherzer got scratched.
Nah not really, it would be considered really bad form (though I'm not sure if there's any MLB penalty) for them to, once they know he's not starting, not announce it to the media. They did treatment on him last night, I'm sure they wanted to check on him today and do a little more and see how he felt before making a decision. This happens all the time, guys will feel something in the bullpen, or during BP, or like Correa last month, when they wake up.
If Astros can get a big lead I would take Cole out after 5 and have him in the pen for GM.7 if need be.
a) Let's not get ahead ourselves. Gotta win 2 more games before we can start dealing with non-problems like that. b) Injuries are a part of the game. The Rays, Dodgers, Yankees, Nationals, and Astros all figured out how to keep going in spite of injuries this year. Hell, two of our important relievers aren't 100% right now (Peacock and Pressly), and that's something our team is having to deal with. c) Scherzer's contribution to the first game was discombobulating wildness that put him out by the 5th inning. He didn't pitch some jewel of a game; their bullpen deserves the credit of pitching the Nats through to a win. d) We iced them last night with a rookie who'd never started a playoff game. We've already won the argument of who made the most unlikely win with what they had. If they lose tonight, none of this "oh, they only had Ross instead of Scherzer" BS. Winners find ways to win.
Not going to happen. If we are up 10-0 and Cole is rolling, Hinch will leave him in as long as his pitch count is reasonable.
I was at the marathon today and saw about 10 people in Astros gear including someone running in a Springer jersey. Weather was terrible, but it should be a great night for baseball.
The real losers of this series are the poor home fans who went to games 1-4. I feel sympathy towards all of them. I hope to sympathize with tonight's Nats crowd as well, and after that, I think we call it good on disappointing the home fans.
Astros gotta guard against having a letdown now that they will not face their ace. Gotta keep the intensity up.
