cliff robinson may be a great fit for us at PF next season. he has range out to the 3, and kg called him the best defencive 4 in the league.

he isnt a long term option, but for the next couple of years he seems to be a nice option, if we can find a way to get him from golden state.

the chances of us getting the players we covet are slim to none. sheed, okur, boozer, ku. thomas, mcgloir are all pipe dreams. the best guys that we have a chance at (that would fit) are:

    lafrentz
    AD
    camby
    cliff
    drobnjak
    p.j.
    howard
    marshall

as far as offence, defence, contract, playoff experience, and leadership, cliff has to be the first option out of that bunch.

Unless Yao can improve his rebounding tremendously, I would like a PF who can grab the offensive rebounds and play defense on top of shooting the mid-range jumpers.

Although Cliff shoots a decent 3-point % for a PF, his FG% of 0.393% this year and 0.398 last year is pretty poor.

If we could sign a Boozer type player to compliment Yao, that would be ideal.

    -G'day-

that is a great idea smoothie. If he would come on the cheap and for a short 1-2yr contract, I wouldn't mind it.

Say no to Lafrentz, long contract and his softness could only hurt Yao.

AD would be a nice enforcer down low.

Camby would also be a nice fit, when healthy, he can rebound with the best of the them.

Cliff would make defenders think twice before they leave him, but I don't about his size at PF in the west. I haven't noticed his defense, but he's pretty old, and quicker PFs might have a field day, sort of like they are having this year.

I'm not totally convinced that Sheed is a pipe dream, Detroit hasn't been playing any better with him and they want to re-sign Okur bad. They got Sheed for his expiring contract, because they will need the $ for Okur this offseason. Most thought that they would re-sign Sheed if they win more, and I think they have actually lost more games with Sheed than without.

Sheed and Yao in the paint would be nasty, nasty enough for the West.

i don't thik we need a 38 year old who has been in this league for 16 years, his numbers are way down and he is not the player we need right now.

don't get me wrong, I picked up Cliff on my fantasy team, but his biggest dissappointment is his 4 rebounds a game.

i just don't think picking him up would be a step in the right direction, as next year his age will be bigger than his fg%

Think about this. If we signed Sheed to the MLE or used the TE to land him and didn't have to give up Cato or MoT to get him, we would have the best 4-5 combination in the league by far. I'm talking starters and reserves. Cato and MoT off the bench would be sick. Yao and Rasheed would be sick. And then Spoon to come in and give quality minutes for foul trouble. We would be able to overpower everybody in the West bar none. They couldn't compete with us inside. After that, it is a matter of getting the perimeter players right. We need to add a 3rd quality guard, a passer and spot up shooter (Brent Barry), and either develop Nachbar or acquire a bigger 3 to spell JJ that can shoot the 3 lights out.

I think that team runs away with the championship next year barring major injury to Yao or Rasheed.

I think the TE (6.9M) and Piatowski (2.5M) could net us Rasheed Wallace in a sign n trade easily, especially if he decides he doesn't want to say.

I don't think any other team in the league can offer a better package than that, and if Rasheed's options are Houston and NY, then he's looking at:

    Rockets @ at LEAST 6.9M
New York @ at most 4.5M

Detroit wouldn't take anything else off New York's hands.

Donyell Marshall has to be the most underated player in the league. I would love to have this guy on hour team. He rebounds, hit's the 3, blocks shots. Yet no one sees to want him?

    is there something i'm missing???

Cliff Robinson has always overstayed his welcome in whereever he's been. Even in his latter years in the league, his reputation for being a cancer in the locker room has not waned. We can't have an all star at every position, I'm happy with what we have in Cato for now, till Boozer's contract is up :D

Cliff's too old & has always been the big man, not the big man supporter. He wouldn't be a good fit here.

i have a feeling we're gonna end up with camby. remember early in the seasonwe made that offer of griff mooch and boki for him?

well this summer they will have $3mil in cap space and getting rid of his $7mil contract which equals our exception will give them a max contract to offer whoever is out there that they want.

my only problem with him is injuries and shooting. he has some range, but we will need him for more than 65 games.

I think Raef Lafrentz's contract is the only thing that would hold us back from trying to land him....well, and his health. He's basically taking the season off so that Ainge can tank for draft picks.

I don't give Vecsey much credence, but when he mentioned offering Mo for Croshere...well, I don't know if there was any truth to it, it seemed far-fetched, but obviously we're gonna look for outside shooters. A 4/5 who shoots the 3 would fit well on a Yao-centric team.

And yet, there is that contract.

You know, I'd look at Chris Wilcox as a serious option.

Stro Swift too, but they'd never give him up.

If Googs shows some improvement and plays out the season for Utah, he would be a nice addition, assuming he signs for the minimum.

Raef sux, but Stro could be a rising star. He's a free agent also.

(we could have one of them in the offseason)

walter Mc carty, donyell marshal at PF both can shoot the treeee!

but i dont' have any idea at the backup sf

(IMO) BOKI would be great, time in the court is what they need

I agree Sane. But I don't think the Pistons want Pike and his 2.5M contract. They would want to clear as much salary to resign Okur. That's why in my initial "Dreamcasting for Ray Allen, Rasheed Wallace" thread I proposed Wallace for the T.E. and our 2005 #1 as the sweetener. We can trade that pick after the draft. Detroit gave up THEIR #1 pick and contracts for Wallace, here they get a #1 back. Makes sense and they don't have to take on more salary.

But you are right, Why would Wallace want to go to NY for the MLE (which I think will be close to 5M next season) when he can come here for 6.9? Plus the Pistons have motivation to trade him out of conference versus letting him walk to a team in the East.

Wallace can either take the MLE with any team (doubful), sign a high dollar contract with a team under the cap (Utah, Phoenix, Denver, Atlanta etc - doubtful) or take the 6.9 T.E. in a S&T with us. I would think we would look pretty attactive. I would think Wallace would want to play with Mobley, Francis (if he is still here) and Yao Ming.

Camby is a major health risk. I wouldn't touch him. This team needs toughness and consistancy. Camby has neither.

Cliff Robinson makes Taylor and Cato look like Wes Unseld and Bill Russell on the boards. No thanks.
