The Nationals have played better, but it's October baseball. These series can and have turned on a dime. Until a team squeezes the last out for the title, it's never over.
Well, I was about to say we're about to find out if Greinke can rise above the moment, and help us survive another day. But ultimately, this doesn't fall at his feet. The collective offense needs to unclench, and barrel up some balls for ****'s sake. Maybe playing with their backs against the wall is the only way they'll loosen up. Or maybe they just turtle up like a bunch of rags, and get put out of their misery quickly.
Yeah, JV wasn't perfect yesterday...and neither was Cole the day before. But when you leave 20 runners on base in 2 games, you're not likely going to win. They've been doing that since they went to Tampa. They'll either break out of it and have a shot...or they won't, and they'll likely get swept.
True Story: I was at a sports bar for ALCS game 6. When Lemayhuehuehue hit the two run shot at the top of the 9th to tie the game, suddenly a solo Yankees fan who had been sitting quietly jumped up and started making noise. Before that moment, no one knew he was present. That didn't turn out so hot for him. Keep that in mind.
I hereby nominate Wilson Phillips “Hold On” as our rally cry song. Cheer up and hold on. Things will go our way.
You went on an opposing fanbase forum after a Game 1 victory to gloat and brag about a sweep. After a devastating Game 2 loss you come right back in to try to make Astros fans admit the Nats are a vastly superior team. During the Astros meltdown in the Game 2, you came in and posted "Go Nats!" And you are wondering why people are pissed at you? Honestly, you should be banned..
Well that was a little different. A home game with Cole starting is a far cry from being down 0-2 and needing to win a game just to get Cole another start(which would be on the road) and needing 2 wins to return the series to Minute Maid Park. I personally think the Astros are toast, but obviously the series isn't officially over til someone wins 4 games. Could they come back? Of course. Win Game 3 and then you guarantee Cole a Game 5 start. Even if you lose Game 4 and are down 3-1, I'd give the Astros a decent shot at winning with him on the mound. If that happens, suddenly you're back in Houston with Verlander on the mound in Game 6. It's not like the Astros haven't been in that situation before and recovered(the 2017 ALCS).
JV would also be 5 days rest for Game 6, but we must win a damn game first. Astros are trying to make notorious history with LOB.
With three fantastic pitchers, the Astros can't be out of it down only 2-0. As stated ad nauseam though, they aren't winning a damn thing until the hitters start hitting with RISP. Getting stoned by Strasburg and Scherzer is one thing, but they're getting shut down by the Nat's bullpen. Which is completely unacceptable. Relax, tune out the media, and take it one pitch at a time. Or choke: it's up to them.
Their offense has been pathetic since late in the regular season when it comes to RISP. They've basically relied almost entirely on home runs and Cole, Verlander, and their bullpen to get to this point in the playoffs. That ain't gonna fly in this series(as if they didn't get the memo already) since the Nats can match them pound for pound on starting pitching and home runs. The Rays didn't have the offense and the Yankees didn't have the starting pitching, so the Astros were able to escape those series.
Astros have to play better we know that. However, a bigger question to me is when do the Nats come down to earth? After the season or over the next week?
Wouldn't be too upset if Nationals win (besides the fact it means Astros lose). Why? Because that city has been through things and taken its lumps. Redskins suck. Wizards suck. Capitals are decent but I don't think they've won in a while. Nationals franchise hadn't won a playoff series in a looong while. Mac should've showed his face before the series began.
The Astros won't go down in history if they lose this. It's not epic. Most folks have no idea how good we were. And most folks don't see Washington as a miracle. And we beat the Yankees, but if the Astros comeback and win it that will in fact go down as a historic moment more than likely. I like our position to make history in a good way. And I'm not in the least worried this has become a miracle moment we'll regret.
I like it. And if/when the series comes back to Houston, can you even imagine how pumped that song will get the crowd going? It’s going to be INTENSE!
The Capitals and Mystiques won titles within the last year. They have an embarrassment of riches right now even if the Redskins and Wizards blow. They done good. And The DC united gave them 4 titles over the last two decades. They don't deserve this simply as a right of Nature. Maybe longtime loyal Expos fans if they are still alive and exist. But not the Nation's capital.
