Uh...girl? I was merely startled that we held a common opinion, but thankfully that uncomfortable sympatico was vanquished with your very next post...
Please do not act like "girl" is an insult. We have a lot of female posters here on the BBS and it's not like there is anything wrong with that.
Hmmmmm sounds a little like Bush using the 9/11 tragedy in his campaign ads, but I guess that doesn't count...
JOURNAL OF METAPSYCHOLOGY 431 Burgess Drive, Menlo Park, California 94025 Article 101 July 15, 1993 Transference Psychology Definition: "The main characteristic (of transference) is the experience of feelings to a person which do not befit that person and which actually apply to another. Essentially, a person in the present is reacted to as though he were a person in the past. Transference is a repetition, a new edition of an old object relationship.... The person reacting with transference feelings is in the main unaware of the distortion."1 Metapsychology Definition: Transference is reacting to a person in the present as though he or she were a person in one's past. Please re-read my post, and try and identify where I equated 'girl' with an insult...then get some help. I know some people, they're very good.
Exactly...Of course, there might be an alternate intepretation, but we'll see if you can work it out.
Just a word about Karma. I believe that Karma traditionally applies to what will happen to you in the next life. If you're a jerk in this life, in the next life you come back as a gnat. Karma has come to mean, commonly, that it will happen in this life. It's also known as 'Instant Karma' in the words of John Lennon. The Wellstone funeral had one speech that was out of line. The rest of the Wellstone funeral was completely tasteful and respectful.
I agree that that move was low class and I didn't approve of it either. That said though that still doesn't justify taking pleasure out of the tragic death of Wellstone, his wife, daughter, longtime campaign aids and the two pilots. Its one thing to criticize how his memorial was carried out and another to take glee at his passing. Taking perverse pleasure out of Ashcroft's suffering is in low taste and worthy of criticism but just because a few jack@sses do that doesn't mean they speak for all liberals or somehow mean that in comparison conservatives are paragons of tact. Before you accuse throw stones at liberal actions I suggest you consider conservative ones too.
SO if Reagan dies during a campaign season you would be upset if Repubs tried to use it as a rallying point for Repub candidates? I agree that it was a political mistake for them to do that and the election proved that. I found it irritating too but in the end the family and friends are the ones to decide how best to mourn for Wellstone. I'm sure if one of your relatives or a close friend died you would would choose to mourn them in the way you thought best even if it might politically offend some people.
One last thought on the Wellstone funeral before I run off to watch the Rox pound the T-Puppies. Far from the funeral being a deliberately set up campaign rally the DFL (as the Dems are known here in MN) had very little control over it. Rick Kahn's speech was pretty much unrehersed and with the exception of Wellstone's family and close friends didn't know what he would say. Also from what I have heard from people here who work in politics if the DFL leadership had known they would've tried to edit or even prevent that speech knowing that it would only inflame Repubs and turn off moderates. Even Rick Kahn has admitted that giving that particularly speech was not the best thing to do and in hindsight he might've not spoken at all. So this wasn't some deliberate premeditated attempt to push the Mondale campaign but people in shock and grief lashing out at a particularly emotional time.
How much of it did you watch? It was about four hours in length. They only showed fifteen seconds on TV where I was and they *modified* the sound the same way they changed the Dean scream. The Republican opponent to Wellstone started campaigning almost immediately afterwards. Is that respecting the sanctity of the event?
But you see...I am a Pisces! And Pisces are born in the last house of the zodiac. And, as such, are supposed to have transended through the 13 houses of the zodiac and have matured to the last house before nirvana. We have nowhere else to go! There is no after life! So there is no karma for me! Have a nice weekend folks!
I knew you had the transended the last house and think it's rising now too. I don't know what the heck I'm talking about, of course. I do well to remember I'm a libra, and born in the year of the monkey.
Well, maybe not a hundred percent serious. Let's just say that Ashcroft's suffering won't cause me to shed any tears...
That's what I get for posting after a couple of Martinis. Basically it goes like this regarding Karma. There are 12 houses of the zodiac (not 13, I was wrong). Each soul must pass through each house on it's way to Nirvana. In each house you must learn a universal lesson. These are the lessons... FIRST HOUSE (ARIES is the natural ruler.) This is the field of experience in which you are challenged to develop your own unique identity and present it to the world. Traditionally this house is associated with personal appearance. SECOND HOUSE ( TAURUS is the natural ruler.) This is the field of experience in which you are challenged to define and refine your personal sense of values. The things, talents, and qualities that you treasure, cherish, enjoy, and hold on to for security are here. Traditionally this house is associated with ; inner and outer talents and resources, personal values. THIRD HOUSE ( GEMINI is the natural ruler.) This is the field of experience in which you are challenged to organize personal experiences to form your own unique picture of the world, and then communicate your perceptions to others. Traditionally this house is associated with; brothers and sisters; basic education; eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. FOURTH HOUSE ( CANCER is the natural ruler.) This is the field of experience in which you are challenged to develop your capacity for emotional closeness; to find a feeling of security ; and to face the effects your early childhood experiences had upon you. Traditionally this house is associated with; nurturing; inherited traits; unconditional love; the type of home you establish. FIFTH HOUSE ( LEO is the natural ruler.) This is the field of experience in which you are challenged to develop your creativity and self-esteem, and to find joy in living. Traditionally this house is associated with; children; enthusiasm; creativity; and motivation. SIXTH HOUSE ( VIRGO is the natural ruler.) This is the field of experience in which you are challenged to seek competence; to function efficiently, in your physical body and in your work. Traditionally this house is associated with ; work; health; services; habit patterns; food; diet; pets. SEVENTH HOUSE ( LIBRA is the natural ruler.) This is the field of experience in which you are challenged to develop committed relationships with others. Traditionally this house is associated with; your attitudes toward spouses and partners; intimate relationships; friends; dealings with the public; what you look for in others. EIGHTH HOUSE ( SCORPIO is the natural ruler.) This is the field of experience in which you are challenged to boldly wrest all the powers of your psyche from the deep, dark underworld; focus all that power with ruthless intensity on the process of breaking down your reality structure into little pieces, then reassemble all the pieces into a new whole. Here is the place where all the taboos of society are addressed; where you dig into your own "internal garbage" to find the treasure hidden there. Think of a compost heap where all the bits of decaying food break down and eventually turn into fertilizer to nourish new growth. Traditionally this house is associated with; other peoples's resources (possessions, money); sex; death and regeneration. NINTH HOUSE ( SAGITTARIUS is the natural ruler. ) This is the field of experience in which you are challenged to broaden your philosophical perspectives and to realize your highest potentials. Traditionally this house is associated with; the higher mind; higher education; law; in-laws; grand children. TENTH HOUSE ( CAPRICORN is the natural ruler.) This is the field of experience in which you are challenged to earn respect and recognition in the world. Traditionally this house is associated with; ambition; status; reputation; career; the parent who set limits for you as a child. ELEVENTH HOUSE ( AQUARIUS is the natural ruler.) This is the field of experience in which you are challenged to establish a relationship with group consciousness and contribute your gifts to community. Traditionally this house is associated with; humanitarian organizations; associations; friends; hopes, wishes and and ambitions; shared ideals. TWELFTH HOUSE ( PISCES is the natural ruler.) This is the field of experience in which you are challenged to explore your inner depths in solitude and silence; to discern between illumination and illusion, between spiritual growth and escapism. Before you can transcend the definitions of reality that confine you, you must be willing to let go of them. These definitions often have to become uncomfortable before we want to let go of them. Disillusionment and the experience of "bad luck" can create the desire to move through and beyond what is causing the pain. Traditionally this house is associated with; the unconscious; self undoing; sacrifice; karma; secrets; secret enemies; hospitals and institutions of confinement. Once achieved, you attain Nirvana. Karma plays a large part in learning the lessons.
Want to really know about Karma? It is really kind of simple. Taken from here: http://www.buddhanet.net/fundbud9.htm In its most basic sense, the Law of Karma in the moral sphere teaches that similar actions will lead to similar results. Let us take an example. If we plant a mango seed, the plant that springs up will be a mango tree, and eventually it will bear a mango fruit. Alternatively, if we plant a Pong Pong seed, the tree that will spring up will be a Pong Pong tree and the fruit a Pong Pong. As one sows, so shall one reap. According to one’s action, so shall be the fruit. Similarly, in the Law of Karma, if we do a wholesome action, eventually we will get a wholesome fruit, and if we do an unwholesome action eventually we will get an unwholesome, painful result. This is what we mean when we say that causes bring about effects that are similar to the causes. "Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." - Bible: Galatians (6:7) "For, owners of their deeds (karma) are the beings, heirs of their deeds; their deeds are the womb from which they sprang; with their deeds they are bound up; their deeds are their refuge. Whatever deeds they do-good or evil-of such they will be the heirs. And wherever the beings spring into existence, there their deeds will ripen; and wherever their deeds ripen, there they will earn the fruits of those deeds, be it in this life, or be it in the next life, or be it in any other future life." - Gautama Buddha “The Kingdom of heaven is like this. A man takes a mustard seed and sows it in his field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it grows up, it is the biggest of all plants. It becomes a tree, so that birds come and make their nests in its branches.” - Jesus
And if we cross breed a Pong Pong tree with a Ping Ping tree we will get a Ping Pong tree with Ping Pong balls.. Sorry I couldn't resist. Totally agree on your definition of Karma and liked how you showed that that concept is in several religions. Its the same as the Golden Rule and "What comes around goes around", "You reap what you sow" and "Chickens coming home to roost."
