With this absurd postseason he's certainly passed Biggio. Bagwell still has a significantly better regular season resume, and the regular season means a lot in baseball. But I wouldn't argue too hard because his playoff antics carry a lot of weight.
Don't think so and it won't be fair for that to be the goal. An individual can control so much more in basketball. Altuve has had bad games that Astros have won. Hakeem could not have. A bad game in the playoffs
It's not like altuve is a slouch. He is a 2 time batting champion and a gold glover. He also has as many MVPs as bags
Already done more in the postseason than Biggio and Bagwell combined. Iconic Altuve Moments off the top of my head... 3 HRs in game 1 vs Red Sox in 2017 ALDS The entire 2017 ALCS vs NYY - Scoring from first on Correa hit - Huge hits in game 6 and 7 3 Run HR off Maeda to tie game at 7-7 in 2017 WS Walk off HR to send us to the World Series tonight. We are super blessed as a city right now to have guys like Jose Altuve and Deshaun Watson at the helm.
Berkman was also a stud in the playoffs. In 6 playoff series with the Astros he had an OPS over .900 5 times and an OPS over 1.000 4 times Altuve is number 1 after this post season in my opinion. Combined, his regular season and post season play surpass Bagwell.
Altuve can still surpass Hakeem, in my book. That would be incredible, unbelievable, but it’s a possibility.
As unique a player and skilled a player Altuve is, he still isn't better than Hakeem. One of the greatest, uniquely skilled, offensive players ever yet perhaps better on defense. Altuve is a strong #2 though and better than most cities' #1.
Pretty sure he was agreeing with you...idk why you felt the need to reply to him. That being said, I just said the exact same thing basically in the other thread about Biggio vs. Altuve...it's outrageous people can't look in the mirror and realize Biggio and Bagwell were notorious chokers and the people who use the argument that Biggio would have been a first ballot HOF if he had played in NY are absolutely wrong. He wouldn't have survived in NY if he continued having playoff performances like he had here...their fans would have booed him out of the city. The regular season doesn't mean **** and the only reason it used to for me and other fans on this board is because we never won anything but now that we are on the verge of a dynasty it will going forward that's for sure...
Altuve is a no brainer Hall of Famer. Just an awesome big game player, who performs year round. These are the good ole days in astros history boys and girls, TREASURE IT! WE ARE WITNESSING HISTORY!!!!!
I respectfully disagree. As other have pointed out, Altuve has just as good of a regular season resumé and he's got a ways to go. Had Bagwell's shoulder not gimped out, he may have had more of a resumé, but we can't rewrite history.
