    Bush nominated for Peace Prize

    March 3, 2004

OSLO, Norway -- President Bush and Pope John Paul II are among the nominees for the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize.

Tuesday's nominating deadline brought the number of candidates for the prestigious prize to 194, said Geir Lundestad, secretary of the awards committee.

This year, those nominated also include British Prime Minister Tony Blair, French President Jacques Chirac, former Czech President Vaclav Havel, the European Union, former chief U.N. weapons inspector Hans Blix and Mohamed ElBaradei, who still heads the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Just remember that Arafat won the Peace Prize so maybe Bush can win it on those terms too.

I'm guessing we won't have a shared prize of Bush and Blix.

I'd put good money on Skeletor though. Dude has really turned a page.

It is almost not worth mentioning who gets nominated, as from what I can understand pretty much anyone can nominate whoever they like. So every year there will be some whackos nominated for the prize. Not that anybody mentioned as being nominated is a whacko. But of the 194 nominated not everyone is likely to get much consideration I would think.

I hear he'll donate the prize money to reduce the deficit.
he probably thinks he's gonna get knighted.

I'm sure the person who nominated Bush meant it to be an ironic nomination.

Irony, it's what the hip kids are doing.

Saddam's gone a lot longer without attacking a country unprovoked. Has anyone nominated him yet? He's got a much better shot than Bush.

Funding terror in the West Bank doesn't count?

As the great George Orwell once put it:

    WAR IS PEACE
    FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
    IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

This is old news... It's not difficult at all to get nominated and, IIRC, some Swiss right-winger was the one that threw his name in there. No sense of irony was implied.
