If there was a "physical risk" then DM isn't the cause of it. It is the greed of the NBA to try and collect the mountain of money on top of a powder keg ready to blow. LBJ should be upset with the NBA for putting him in danger, for creating such a perilous relationship, and with the NBA for doubling down on the idea that "this will all blow over" and continuing the game with the Nets. LBJ should have taken the first flight home, and urged his teammates to do the same if safety was the issue. I wonder what he did...
What I find most hilarious in all this is that LBJ has committed the same mistake that Morey did. Just like how Morey is seen by a lot of NBA fans as a representative of the Rockets (and perhaps the NBA), LBJ is seen by many fans as a representative of NBA players. His comment now pulls in those players who really just want to play ball. He should have just kept quiet and played ball.
Ahh yes the CCP propaganda of hoodlums. How does Morey support violence perpetrated by those in Hong Kong? That is a really loaded question so I will throw another one at you....... how can you support the CCP and their extreme violence? You are so concerned about violence in Hong Kong but not the 2,000,000 Muslims in concentration camps that are being held against their will by the CCP? You support the CCP that is responsible for the death of 45,000,000 Chinese less that 70 years ago? Why did Morey comment on Hong Kong and not Black Lives Matter? Perhaps because he has friends that are in Hong Kong that are scared of being turned into mindless drones by the CCP like the CCP has done to mainland China? Has anyone asked Morey how he feels about Black Lives Matter? Perhaps ask him.......... mean while the world is learning about the disgusting atrocities of the CCP and their incredibly oppressive control.
Exactly. This reminds of a son asking his father not to beat his sister. The father then goes and beats the hell out of the son and the daughter. The mom then comes in and blames the children for provoking the father and getting pissed "date night" is ruined because father is tired from beating everyone.
LeBron being over dramatic as usual. Wasn't NOBODY gonna touch them in China. Stop with the BS. These guys stayed at luxury hotels where they were protected like the president, and just played an exhibition game. And it was still filled with 16K Chinese fans. Just say you don't care about what's going on in China, but you care about how Morey jeopardized your ability to make money from China. I'd actually have more respect for LeBron if he was honest like that instead of making this more than what it is.
I doubt any of them has much knowledge of politics in a foreign country. LeBron has his own team of supporting cast (e.g. agent, marketing staff, etc.) for non-basketball stuff. He is not on his own. Meanwhile, there is a difference in time points: it is possible that LeBron has more knowledge on the topic after the trip than Morey did before he sent the tweet. Many westerners view the protest as a fight against an authoritarian government for democracy. Chinese view the protest as violent behaviors that attempt to separate HK from China with some involvement of western countries behind the scene. These are the ideological differences that caused the backlashes in both China and the US. Morey did not know the Chinese view before he sent the tweet. LeBron might know that right now. The extradition bill was already withdrawn one month before Morey sent the tweet. He was clearly not rooting for that. The protesters have been asking for more and they are forcing the government to accept their demands through violence. I get that there was probably police misconduct during the whole process. But the current level of violence and destruction is way too much. By the way, you also have a few misunderstandings of the extradition bill and China: 1) the bill is for extraditing fugitives that violate mainland laws in China, not for those who violate the same laws in HK; 2) the bill has made it very clear that it is not applicable to political fugitives; 3) it is a bit overblown to think every disagreement with the government would result in a detention in China - discussions of less-sensitive (e.g. economic and financial) policies are generally allowed; - private discussions of sensitive topics (e.g. rumors of personal information of the president and his relatives) are fine; - public discussions of sensitive topics are restricted on the Internet, therefore it is more likely that the posts would be censored before getting public; - there had been peaceful protests on local issues in mainland China that were successful; - some of those being detained were publishing reports that advocated significant changes to the Chinese political system, or played important roles in large political protests; - there were cases that people were detained for defamatory after publishing articles with concrete details that harmed the interests of specific corporations or government officials. Some of them were released afterwards when the higher-level government & public media involved and verified the articles were telling the truth. All in all, the legal system allows less freedom than the US and has its issues. But it might not be as restrict as some people think in most part of China. The last sentence is a legitimate point. It is easy to take a stand when there is nothing to lose, but not otherwise. This applies to everyone regardless of who the person is.
Regardless of views on the Hong Kong situation, China had a severe SEVERE overreaction to the tweet. They then tried to bully the NBA into firing Morey and influencing our free speech. And that speaks more volume about the Chinese government than anything.
OMG! WHAT FREEDOM!!! I apologise to the CCP for calling them Nazi. They are just the Stasi! Congratulations!
Bron said what many players and owners are thinking, but weren’t gonna say...now they’ve seen the backlash and will definitely not be saying a word about this unless they’re pulling a Steph “I’m ignorant about the situation” Curry or “I’m just focusing on basketball” type statement I’m surprised Bron came out with this statement after having days to think about something to say this whole thing was already starting to die down after just 1 week...if Lebron didn’t say what he did by next week this topic would’ve been moved to the back of many people’s minds as they moved on to other things like the start of the season...Bron went and sparked things up again
That’s right. Only thing Lebron cares is about all the money he might lose in China, all his merchandise, shoes and jersey or in his chinese sponsors. Also I’m guessing he knows his new movie will be a flop in the USA and was hoping to sale some more tickets in China.
Haven't read the thread, but for Lebron to say Daryl is not educated on something, that's like this girl saying Einstein was not educated on something.
To be fair the u.s. is a puppet to china. Wake up people. Nike Disney ur government are all puppet to china. Why arent they doing anything. Look at ur shoes clothes smart phones Everytjing in ur life i made in china. They own you, u just dont know it
It seems that the level of freedom is acceptable to most ordinary people who do not publicly advocate to end the ruling of CCP, organize political activities, or spreading information that harms interests of powerful organizations / persons. For the last case, CCP has its own discipline commission for handling complaints on government officials. Internet is usually not the best channel for those complaints. Complaints on corporation misconducts can often be handled by corresponding government departments or via media exposure (local governments only have control of local media outlets but not the more powerful ones).
LeBron James has never been on the side of freedom. He's a hypocritical, rich socialist who thinks that he should be able to do whatever he wants but that everyone else should live by a different, less-free set of rules. Typical Leftist, actually.
