He did take the Ny Knicks from the 8th seed to the NBA fINALS. The style we play suits us best for the playoffs. Jump shooting teams like Minnesota and Dallas can got Hot one night to cold the next. There is two things we lack from basically being favorites 1. experience 2. our superstar players have not reached their prime or potential yet. i think if we play Dallas or Minnesota we can get an upset.
If I give you my home address would you please be so kind as to give me whatever you're on.....because it must be some gooooood ****!
lets first try to get there eh? i kinda know what u r talking about. Slow down offense, solid defense, and rebounding can help u win in the playoffs. But to be honest, I am yet to be impressed by the Rockets. I think we only play that kind of ball in all areas very seldom. The rest of the time, we are frauds. We only win cause of lesser competition, especially lately. I mean, you would think that a team contending for the 6th seed in the West would've beaten Dallas, San Antonio, Sacramento, Memphis, OR , Seattle at least ONCE . We struggle against good shooting teams. Dont for a second think that we can go in playing like we are currently, and upset a team like Dallas or Minne......No way in hell! Once we get some 'Big Wins', then u can start dreamcasting
Did you see the starting line up on that 8th seed? LJ, Ewing, Houston, [was spree there yet?] That team underacchieved until the playoffs. . . pure and Simple they should have been a much higher seed than 8th Getting to the finals was the expectation whe they started the season not unlike Portland with all their overloaded lineup Rocket River it is not impressive. . the myth of 8th to the finals 6th to the championship with only Hakeem as a Horse. . . that is impressive
To be fair, Hakeem did have Clyde in his prime that year. On the thread topic, I agree that JVG could very well have some success in the playoffs with his style, depending on the matchup we have. The playoffs are physical, half-court, grind it out games and that is the type of game the Rox are being taught. I believe that JVG & company are taking the long term view and showing the Rox the type of style that will win playoff games and championships down the line. We may not do it with the crew we have now, but there is one saying that very few people will disagree with: Defense wins playoff games and championships. Sure did for the Rox from '93 to '95.
It's no question that JVG is full of good idea. BUT the problem is, STeve don't know how to do it, and the rest of the guys.
This may be true, but that is what JVG is trying to teach them. We may end up making some changes over the summer, especially if we do not end up with many more wins than we had last year. Of course, JVG is doing this without a large part of last year's team (EG) who was expected to step up to be a solid performer this year. We will probably be a player in both the free agent market as well as the trade market with the trade exception. We will make improvements over the summer, but I think JVG is trying to figure out who are the best candidates for running his system next year and after.
Looks like the trendy thing to say is "JVG's style is suited for the playoffs". I don't buy this. What wins in the playoffs is having good teams. Playoff records: JVG: 37-32, .536 Rudy: 51-39, .567 Winning in the NBA isn't about style of play, it's about having a better team.
We don't rebound well all the time. The main problem is some games Yao seems to disappear around the glass. Its also depressing to me that when Cato (our best rebounder) is playing well he still only plays 20-25 minutes. If JVG is so defense and rebounding oriented then why the hell does MoT play so much? He's the antipathy of defense and rebounding. Sometimes Jeff really confuses me based on what he says he wants and who he chooses to play (rebounding so play MoT, gaurds who can shoot so play Jackson)
that was Spree's first year, Ewing was out alot of that year with injuries, he barely even played in the playoffs, he missed ALL of the Finals. thats why that run was magical, a bunch of ragtags led by Spree and Houston, with no Pat Ewing, Allen had his magic bank shot of game 5 against Miami, LJ had his patented "four point play" against Indy, but no way a Ewing less squad is going to beat Spurs in 7, in fact they only lasted 5. "Size does matter in this league," Van Gundy said of Robinson and Duncan, "particularly in the playoffs. And their size beat our speed and quickness because not only did that affects on the boards and in the post, but every penetration was a difficult, difficult shot because of their shotblocking."
