I'm voting "thumbs up". Not because I agree with him all the time, but because he does write reviews that are more than , "Oh, that's cool!" or "Oh, that sux!". Gotta give him credit for that. Writing reviews is more dependent on the writing than on whether or not you agree with the reviewer, imo. Besides, he's a huge Blade Runner, Ridley Scott fan.
I think the title of this poll should be changed to: "Do you think Nomar has good taste in movies." I'm pretty sure that is what yipeng was going for. Because I for one think the quality of his reviews are good, but I don't agree with his tastes on most movies.
In that case, I think you should start doing movie reviews here. You should anyway. You'd see more films (many of which you would hate ), and we'd get to read more of your excellent writing. Seriously.
haha, i'm glad you caught that. p.s. that "i'm pretty sure i destroyed this guy in final fantasy" was one of the funniest post i've ever read. that was you right?
One thing about it, he sure watches a lot of movies, so he's got that going for him. Nomar seems to let his political views get in the way sometimes so I wouldn't say he is objective.
Yeah, it is. Sorry about offending you if I did, I was just calling it how I saw it. Wow. People actually had my back in this thread. Big ups to all of you. And Paige - You should write reviews.
thumbs down.. not to hate but his way of deciding whether a movie is good or not SUCKS! He totally ruined the pleasure of rewieving LOTR for me. I felt exstatic about these movies as they are unique in movie history and nothing so good on such a big scale will ever be made again IMO. All he did was pointing out unimportant details that he thought was bad and he used that to say the movies were bad. Not the way to do it.. He lost all credibility there IMO. Damn I didn´t mean to hate but you did ask.... He is a good poster though in all fairness just not when he is rewieving movies.
Bah! I voted "Thumbs Down" by accident. I meant "Mixed Reviews." I don't like nomar's taste in movies all that much, but he does write decent reviews (even if I disagree with them... a lot...).
How could a guy you don't know in "real life" spoil talking about these three excellent flicks? I can't remember if I talked much about ROTK, because I've figured out that the "director's cut" versions of these films are far superior to the versions released to theatres. For example, I thought TTT was much better with the scenes in it that Jackson had to cut out to please the studio's wishes for a shorter film. But, unlike many here, I didn't like that film as much as the first. And I have some serious "nit-picky" problems with it... the biggest being the whole "Elves coming to the rescue of Helm's Deep" thing. Not in the book, no way... no how. And I hated it! But on the DVD of Two Towers, they include the Ents doing their thing at Helm's Deep, which was a nit-picky for me with the theatrical version. I know Nomar hates the 3 films, pretty much, and I don't... I'm thrilled that Jackson pulled off what was, to me, an impossible task. But he's entitled to his opinion.
I give Nomar a thumbs up. I always find his reviews interesting and entertaining, even if I don't often follow his advice. Please, Nomar, keep the reviews coming and don't pay attention to the results of this unscientific poll.
I might give it a shot sometime, though I don't know that anyone wants to hear about how I liked Eurotrip largely because I have a huge crush on Kristen Kreuk (who was barely in the movie).
Deckard I actually meant that after I saw the movies in the theater I read Nomars reviews and were amazed how negative his comments were. you could see that the only reason for him to see the movies was to find something to critize that was what was ruining it for me when I wanted so sit down and watch them again on DVD. All the things he pointed out wasn´t even something I agreed with but I was constantly finding myself thinking why did he critizice this or that when I thought nothing was wrong. I guess I could have let it go but he keeps pointing out his views no matter how dumb they are so it is kind of hard to let go. But I promise... not one more negative word about that from me.. seriosly I promise
movie reviews are subjective..... so are opinions on Nomars reviews keep putting your reviews out there Nomar, whether i agree with you or not, i'll continue to read your movie reviews
Nomar's a good critic when he doesn't have a personal dislike for either the project as a whole, or an aspect of it. With the LOTR example, he's letting his emotion over the text/film connection get the better of him. His personal dislike sets the tone, then he finds reasons to back it up. A consistent critic would try to avoid that. But when it's a movie he doesn't already have a predetermined opinion on, you can see he makes some good points. Keep it up, Nomar, you do fine. Just try and remain objective all the time, every time bud.
Obviously he is good because two threads are going now that deal with his reviews. The only real measuring stick I have is the LOTR stuff and I found most of his criticisms to be good enough. I was not nearly as turned off as he was, but I had similar complaints nonetheless. I don't think he would have liked anybody's version of the movies, though...but that is just a guess. I don't really keep track of the others or haven't seen the movies he has reviewed.
