Eddie Griffin is no longer a Rocket fan favorite. Agreed. His head is not screwed on right and he may serve some jail time or more funny farm time. Agreed. He may never even play professional basketball again.

However, why not offer him the minimum (he probably needs money now or soon will) to see if he will recover? We've already gambled the farm on him. Why not throw in a rake and hoe to see if this crop will ever be ready for a harvest?

If the gamble doesn't work out, while the experiment lasts Les loses a slot on the roster -- which is not filled -- and chump change (talk about inflation when $200+K is chump change!). If it does work and Eddie does conquer his demons, he will have been worth the risk.

The first reaction, I know, will be "hate" responses for Eddie. We all know these are deserved, but let's look at this rationally and from the perspective of logic. Personally, I have low expectations for Eddie's recovery, but IF you gamble you gamble to win.

IF you gamble, you gamble on something new as opposed to something that noone has won in. the nets took a gamble on eddie and we traded for him so we could take a gamble. that turned out bad, and the nets took a gamble on him again, and failed (maybe they were hoping we would trade for him again). if you want to gamble, i would go for baxter over griffin any day of the week.

    Thumbs,

I wish I am Eddie Griffin and you are the boss, and then, your continuing investment on me is very welcomed.

I would rather see the rockets sign Terrence Morris to the minimum than Eddie. We could use a tall defensive athlete like TMO especially on teams like Seattle and Dallas who have fast power forwards. I thought TMO would have fit in real well with this brand of basketball this season, a guy who could cover the three and the four, plus a weakside shot blocker.

Not really a bad idea. Thumbs, you are compassionate person; I wonder if Griffin is? Even though he had the personality of a "comode float," I never really thought he was a thug. But shooting at your girlfriend is not cool.

Forget EG. We just have to move on. We have quality players on this team, but the chemistry is way off...

There are a lot of other youngsters who have much better skills than eddie and on AND off court .. i rather get juaquin hawkins or terrance morris or maybe even Pig Miller.. eddie is trash. he wasted his life, he doesn't know what he's doing.

Ouch. Hey Tonaaayyyy, tell us how you really feel. Can't we all just make peace with EG time with the Rockets, not regret what we gave up for him or not blame him for being able to stick with the Rockets?

EG is really troubled, and no team should take a chance on him until EG is ready, and hopefully for him EG will get right for himself before he gets right for an NBA team.

EG could've been a GREAT player for this team. I can just see him fitting in. All he needed to do was work on that jumper and bulk up. He would've been magnificent for this team. Very good rebounder, superb shotblocker, tall, can hit the occasional 3, mobile, and young.

We really took a hit losing him.

Among those thorns might be a rose. Otherwise, tweezers will help.:D

One of the best employees I ever had came to me as a troubled youth.

    :D :D Agreed.

:) Best commentary of the day. Once an investment is made, I hate to give up on it.

    Nautic: Two thumbs down!
I won't go into the history of "thumbs" scoring, but for every "thumbs down" exists the possibility of a "thumbs up.";)

thumbs I think thats a great attitude.. i think EGriffing coming back to this team would be a great comeback story..

    AP:

EGriffin after working out his off court problems joins the Rox for summer league and trys to earn himself a roster spot. After a great summer league showing Egriffin has worked himself into the starting rotation and proven himself a valuable commodity making teams pay for double teaming down on Yao.

Makes for interesting discussion doesnt it?

I have nothing against Egriffin personally.. he is a troubled person that needed some time to sort out his demons. and for his other problems isnt it innocent until proven guilty? if he is convicted oh well he deserves it, if hes proven innocent than we should leave it at that. who knows maybe she was a psycho stalker or somethinG?!

irregardless EG would be nice to have back on this team for the minimum and definately worth the risk IMO.

You could try to overcome a slew of problems to somehow make it work, but one thing you won't be able to get over probably ever is that Eddie Griffin on the Rockets means Eddie Griffin in Houston, Texas.

No one knows the details other than to say he got mixed up with a lot of bad types -- so there's no doubt that if there's one place on planet Earth that Eddie shouldn't be, it's Houston ... beating out the likes of Iraq, North Korea and Memphis.

Bad influences exist in every city across the land. He would have had -- and will continue to have -- the same problems anywhere he goes and in direct proportion to the amount of money and fame he acquires. The City of Houston is not the culprit.

IF he has a moral epiphany -- discovering and adhering to a positive value system coupled with respect for himself -- he will be able to function anywhere, regardless of the thuggery that chases him. Here's to altruism and hope.

But thumbs, I doubt anybody would really enjoy the experience of laying in a bed of roses a la the Bon Jovi song. Even pretty things have appropriate and inappropriate circumstances.
