The new starwars uses the already existing popularity to put butts in the seat. It also made less money than the previous. The next will make even less. Also explain Soylo actually flopping. Disney made its money back on buying SW because SW has an existing fan base so strong that even a flop by star wars standard was profitable. They are a well run company.
Tell that to Nike who just posted a 10.45 billion quarter in sales. Going “woke” seems to have been a pretty good business decision for them. The “bloodbath” in digital media is a legit thing but for every ThinkProgress there are two CrookedMedia or Daily Kos or activist online groups like Indivisible popping up. On the other end... how is the last album from Kid Rock doing? How is that Sion Trump hotel chain for middle Merica doing?
Gillette would disagree with how full proof that strategy is with an $8 billion hit after going woke. It's already reverted from that mistake with a new campaign. We will see more get woke go broke stories as people leave the social moral panic and enter a new paradigm. This is why critics gave Dave Chapelle a 33%, because they are activists and push an agenda, but actual people ranked it 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.
There is an exception to every general premise. Those exceptions don't invalidate the premise. I think Nike is the exception to "get woke go broke." Nike's customer base prolly does see former 49ers QB as a hero. So, Nike is actually making a good business decision. Gillette, Star Wars, etc., are alienating their traditional base; and thus they are going down the tubes. "Get Woke Go Broke" is generally valid.
This is an example of someone trying to spin business trends as political fodder. We see the right do this a lot to spread propaganda folks. Gillette didn't take an $8B loss from an ad campaign. It took an $8B loss because men are shaving less and a strong dollar: Can you start being honest in debates?
So they were never profitable. Surprised they were willing to bleed this long. Premature excitement. Term incorrectly applied What does woke mean? Woke means being conscious of racial discrimination in society and other forms of oppression and injustice. In mainstream use, woke can also more generally describe someone or something as being "with it."
Star Wars is not going down the tubes, Disney is still swimming in money thanks to Star Wars, the new movies sold MORE than the old ones ever did. Facts. Captain Marvel did better than every other Marvel hero not named Black Panther. That is to say that the Avenger series sold better than other solo hero movies (Iron man, Captain America, Thor, etc etc) but Black Panther and Captain Marvel did better than all of those series on their first try, both of these movies are "GET WOKE" movies. It looks like to me Gillette is the exception here and they may have lost money for other reasons. Companies don't lose business broadening their audience, insane to think that.
