I'm raising this question cause its driving me crazy. It seems like every year the Rox struggle with some teams they should beat and as with last year this might cost them the playoffs. Worse this year unlike last year when the Grizzlies could enjoy denying us the playoffs out of spite this year if it comes down to the wire their dominance over us could put them in playoffs either over us or out all together. Is there something in the psyche or matchups that causes the Rox to get routinely beat by teams who they should be trouncing? I would like to know before I start pulling my hair out over this. And please spare me the "on any given day" or "the talent level in the NBA is so high" I can understand that for the occasional loss here and there but we're seeing a pattern here.
how ironic...im watchign the minesota and sixers game, and the rockets get mentioned. Bill Walton said can the rockets finish the season by beating the good teams.
Because they all drive the ball past our lead footed PG and dish out for a wide open 3. Same ole same ole... Ole defense by SF. DD
Our defense is predicated on funneling the offensive players to the middle where our big men can swat away or alter their shots down low. Most teams then rely on perimeter jump shots which for most of the time causes a lower percentage shot. But against teams like the Mavs, Sonics, Kings and Grizzlies this plays right into their strengths and since they all pass the ball so well they good shots. Not only good shots but WIDE OPEN SHOTS. That is why I dont wont play any of those teams in the first round.
We are poor at passing into the post !When we do pass we telegraph it ! Our Guards are not looking for the open Man they are instinctive shooters not passers. Our players are split into two different mind sets and its impossible to redirect. Some members of the Team allow their Social Life to dominate their Athletic Life, which often shows itself as inconsistentcy. All the players do not have the same agenda, ie lack of focus on the Big Prize. Some players when paid the big money dont care to always give the Coach 100%. Our Center is in the process of learning the NBA Game. Our Center gets bad instructions on how to play his Game. Steve Francis regularly ignores Yao Ming calling for the ball, he takes it in the opposite side away from Yao Ming. Our Guards dont know how/or are unwiling to control the pace of the Game. The Coach uses too few players in the Rotation, he needs to develop Nachbar.Thats just for starters.
Yetti, You are not only a handsome man, but an intelligent one as well. I can see by your posts that you are a genius. DD
Man I really do not understand why Nachbar isn't getting minutes. I mean, Pike has been in and out of the doghouse, Griffin has come back and gotten minutes. What does Nachbar have to do to get minutes, block Yao 5 times in practice?
I think its more of a match up problem with the Sonics and Grizzles. Its the same thing with Dallas. These teams give the Rockets fits with the way they match up with them.
Seattle and Mephis has trapping Defences. The Mavs Zone kills us. The reason for this is cause we are tryna to force the ball to the post. you have to approach these defences diffrent. You cant melt getting the ball to Yao cause the defence are play to steal the pass to the post. Notice that the Rackets were better against the Mavs before we had Yao thats why. We just need to appoachh them diffrent.
Look at the Rockets' division and conference records and then see if your subject title is even relevant.
We lose to teams that are good from 3-pt range simply because we focus on cutting off penetration. We lose to the Grizzlies because we can't deal with the type of pressure they bring to the game courtesy of Hubie Brown.
Because they exploit our weaknesses; and we don't have a superior intelligent attack. All Rocket killer teams can shoot the ball and play smarter. They front or double Yao and deny him the ball, then bait the guards into taking bad shots. JJ and Taylor get flustered with quick rotating defense; they are terribly inconsistent shooters, anyway. When Cato's out there, Cato's out there. With Yao neutralized and frustrated, Rockets don't have a two-man game, don't set effective screens, and can't seem to hit cutters attacking. Rockets lose.
The Rockets have the worst pick and roll defense in the entire history of basketball. It's not even funny any more.
