Has anyone been to the Downtown Aquarium? I was thinking about going before the game tonight with a few friends. I was reading some reviews on b4-u-eat.com and it seems like everyone was disappointed or just had bad night. Stuff like horrible service, food was gross, too expensive...........Is it really that bad? There were some good reviews but it didn't seem like many. And are there two restaurants and a lounge at the Downtown Aquarium?
I ate at the Aquarium in Kema (sp?) when I was in H-Town. Is it the same restaurant? Same theme and everything I mean?
I think it is pretty much the same thing. What was your experience like? Was worth it or was it all flash and no substance?
Overall I would give it a B. Food was good but nothing to rave about and a little overpriced, my meal alone cost nearly $40. Service was good when I went. Noise level was awful. The environment you eat in was great, I really liked it the best of everything.
That's what I hear and read the most about the restaurant. I think I'm just going to ignore all the bad reviews and try it for myself. The environment is probably why I want to go there anyway.
(relating from the Kemah Aquarium)... food - very average, especially for the cost sights - very cool The pros and cons sorta weigh themselves out...but The Aquarium is definitely not some place you'd want to visit frequently.
Other than the price, I would say it is pretty cool. The food is pretty good, but your paying more for the ambience (sp).
you want fried food? go to Pappadeux. you want a real seafood dinner? go to Goode Company Seafood, get anything they offer Mesquite Grilled... they serve fried food also, but you can get fried fish practically anywhere. I will never patronize a Fertitta's restaurant again after this white tiger debacle. If Fertitta wants to run a zoo, he should open one, not stick Tigers in a seafood restaurant and not even a good one at that.
I just noticed on there web site that it is $6 parking? $8 if I'm too good to park my own car. It doesn't say how long the parking is......you think it will last till the game is over. That way we can just park there and take public transportation to the game and back. Connie's Seafood is the best place for fried food (Shrimp).
I thought the place was pretty good and the prices were about what I thought they would be before I went so I wasn't surprised about that. The food was good and the service was fast and friendly. I got the stuffed flounder and enjoyed it. I won't go there all time, but I'm sure I'll go back.
I agree. The aquarium attractions they have are nice...just not enough. We walked through there in no time at all and I was like, "is that it?".
I have been to both the one in Kemah and Downtown with my wife and son. I thought the food was excellent, albeit a touch pricey. I had stuffed flounder one of the times and it was to die for If small children (or out of town guests) are involved: 10 out of 10 If not: 9 out of 10. It is definitely worth checking out once.
Anytime you go to an "attraction" restaurant you should expect to pay a little more for what you're getting. Some of the seafood dishes are actually quite good. My wife and I shared the fisherman's platter for $29 I believe, and it was excellent. I've tried the second restaurant, Marina Matinee, as well, and it's pretty decent if you are on a budget and/or don't want to wait a long time to get seated. If you have kids, watch out, because the entire complex is designed to separate you from your cash, but all in all it's a pretty good time. The train ride/shark adventure is pretty cool and has some surprising moments (I won't spoil).
