Bills fan here. Looks like Cody Ford will end up sticking at guard. He struggled early on in camp at RT and after the first week they kicked him in at RG with FA signing Nsekhe manning the RT position. The early return on Ford is that he lacks in foot work and ability to protect against the speed rush needed to be on the outside. Guard just makes more sense for him as he is big and strong enough to man the position while his negatives on the outside don't matter as much on the inside.
Thanks for the update. Makes the Howard pick a little easier to swallow, was pretty upset when we passed on Ford.
Yes, thanks for the info. It's always hard to get a good feel from afar. Reports thus far indicate he's a work in progress, but definitely looking like an opening day starter on the line, even if at guard and not right tackle. Would you concur?
I'm not arguing they haven't failed; I'm arguing against the idea they haven't tried. They've tried. And if you want to fire everyone for the results of that effort, I think you'd be wholly justified. But to say they haven't tried is objectively wrong.
Tried? As in having the second most cap space in the league and having their franchise QB on his rookie contract kind of trying? Profiteers
Then we can’t turn around and blame him for not putting enough resources in the OL, or any other personnel decisions for that matter.
Did you read that post?? It wasn't complimentary of Ford in the slightest. Basically he's slow footed, and lacks the ability to stop the speed rush from the edge. THAT'S what you wish was being said about Howard??
I dont think we were in the draft market for a guard that high of a round. Tytus was supposed to be a project left tackle which proves to be right since hes better suited for guard at the moment. Hopefully he learns and adapts quickly to the nfl game and can eventually become our left tackle we drafted him for.
Howard is a Tackle. However, the Texans do not want to throw a rookie at LT if they don't have to. Howard will be a tackle in the NFL.
I hope they were not in the draft market for a guard in the 1st, they have like 17 guards on the roster lol. Yet their 1st round pick is probably going to start at guard. They needed to draft a LT since they don't have a veteran LT better than Kalil. If they wanted to draft the LT of the future, they should have signed a better veteran LT i.e. Donald Penn.
The Texans need a LT in 2019. They don't really have a great solution or prospect for that right now.
Bob O'Brien & his OL guru Mike Devlin suck at drafting & developing OL. Like who the hell needs Duane Brown, Ben Jones & Brandon Brooks? Xavier Su'a-Filo Nick Martin Julie'n Davenport Kyle Fuller Martinas Rankin Tytus Howard Max Scharping and free agent busts like Jeff Allen, Tony Bergstrom, Breno Giacomini, Seantrel Henderson & Matt Kalil
"Brian we love the talent of Typhus Howard. Great young man, hard worker. Getting better all the time. It will take some time. We have the time Brian. Someday he will start. I haven't met him yet but I am sure he is a football player."
