    Nets waive F Eddie Griffin

    February 27, 2004
EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) - Eddie Griffin will not be resuming his NBA career with the New Jersey Nets after the troubled forward was waived Friday.

Griffin originally signed with the Nets on January 8 after being released by the Houston Rockets for problems off the court.

The 6-10, 232-pound Griffin was released from voluntary substance abuse and depression therapy in early December.

Griffin was found guilty of mar1juana possession on January 20 after being arrested in April. He was cited for violating probation and also is facing two counts of aggravated assault stemming from an October 25 incident in which he allegedly punched a woman and fired gunshots at her.

Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy suspended Griffin in the preseason for missing a practice and skipping a team flight. Griffin was released by the Rockets on December 19.

The 21-year-old Griffin was selected by New Jersey seventh overall in the 2001 draft and was dealt to Houston for three first-round picks.

A Philadelphia native who entered the draft after playing one season at Seton Hall, Griffin averaged 8.7 points and 5.8 rebounds in 77 games in 2002-03.

Hey, anyone interested in this forward with lots of potential and upside? :D ;)

..... that line makes me want to cry. We haven't had that many 1st round picks combined since that year.

Too true. And it doesn't look like he's getting a grip on things, either. Quite the reverse.

Every time that Net SF dunks off a Kidd pass, I thought of the loss of the Rockets ...

    off a KIDD pass.

RJ wouldn't be doing half the stuff he does with SF quarterbacking.

Jimmy Jackson is doing it with Francis at the point why couldn't Richard Jefferson? Still, who cares about not getting Jefferson, the Rockets are fine. If we get Jefferson maybe the Rockets don't get Yao Ming since they won a few more games. Nachbar looks like he's developing so Nachbar and Jackson are doing a great job of manning the SF spot. I don't know why people are so hung up on Jefferson.

As much as EG has hurt the Rox,

Waste of a life >>> Waste of draft picks

EG is really messed up and I'll be very surprised if he ever plays in the NBA. He has enough challenges just putting one foot in front of the other.

Just sad................:( . especially watching this be played out on a public stage.

I agree. Besides, Nets would'nt probably have this one slip out of their grasp.

It doesn't solve a problem if the guy is a moron to start with. For everybody else we'd be pretty happy.
