Before you read any further, yes, this is just another Francis bashing post. After the Wizards game a few games ago, remember this: Since then Francis has been 15-54, or just under 28%, needless to say, he's fallen back below 40%. This is not to say he's been terrible in that stretch, averaging 6 assists to only 2.5 turnovers a game, which are pretty run of the mill numbers for most PGs, but for Francis, it's an improvement. I just find it interesting how Francis, the Rockets defacto leader, can make such a strong statement and then completely fail to back it up with quality play, or at least some improved shot selection, especially when he seems to consider 40% something akin to hitting .300 in baseball, when it's more akin to the infamous mendoza line.
40% is the line that was drawn by the media. questions by the media such as "what are your thoughts about your current shooting which is less than 40%?" i dont think steve thinks that is a good number. he probably doesnt think his career avg of 431 is good either. in his best season (shooting wise), he shot over 45% from the field.
I was wondering when someone would bring this up. It is ironic! No question, Francis' lack of a jumpshot is killing us. As the second 'star' on this team, he has to be able to be a scoring threat for this team to be able to succeed. He just does not seem like he is able to do it in this offense.
Yeah, I thought maybe when he said that his shooting touch would make an emergence. Guess Francis is eating his words right about now.
Do you guys even realize how incredible this team would be if Francis would shut up and just average 17pts/6assists/2.5TO's on 42% shooting? If he can do that the rest of the way, we can easily lock up 6th spot.
If you would listen to the way he said it instead of reading a print you could tell it was said sarcastically, even the reporters were laughing. Shaq says things like this all the time; sounding serious but jokingly. Although it was sarcastic, It wasn't smart of him to say b/c there are those out there (like yourself) who take things too seriously especially if you dislike the guy. He doesn't need to prove anything to fans, he just needs to play up to his capabilities and everyone will shut up.
Because despite his statement, he's still unsure of when he's expected to shoot vs. pass in JVG's offense. Sure, a smarter or more experienced player would've learned this by now, but this is our Stevie Franchise. I don't care if it takes him the rest of the year, as long as he gets completely comfortable with the offense at some point. Any playoff appearance this year would've been a short one anyway.
Amen topfive, He has definately had a hard time finding his grove this year, but I am in no way shape or form giving up on this Stevie Franchise.
The system is probably affecting his shot selection, but does that keep him from making his jumpshots at the end of quarters when we isolate him in the middle?
