The 5 minutes between me being aware of a Chinanu Onuaku TPE and then losing it were the biggest rollercoaster in my experience with TPEs.

Does this mean we can re-sign Onuaku now?

Does this further extrapolate the Tilman is cheap narrative?

I'll give them a pass on not using these TPEs. We all know Tilman is cheap whether he uses these or not. If we had an $8-10M TPE that they let expire, then I would be really pissed.

Does this mean the Rockets chances of signing Kenneth Faried get better on Septermber 1st?

They had a (short-lived) $9.7M+ TPE they let “expire”. It was the amount of additional salary they could’ve taken on in the Westbrook trade. That could’ve been even greater if they added a minimum player or two. They apparently tried to expand the trade but couldn’t get anything done. Still, it is very disappointing that they couldn’t take advantage of that opportunity.

unfortunately at this point "wouldn't" is probably just as likely as "couldn't"

In the eyes of "fans" only.

I wonder if any other fan base has ever had so much negativity over a traded player exception.

When’s the last time the Rockets have ever gotten a player with a trade exception?

I’m not surprised thought. They have shown that they will only pay the tax for certain players. I’m sure that list is very limited. If that’s the case the most valuable players don’t often get traded before the trade deadline.

perhaps true. but also relevant is the context here. has any other team jumped thru a dozen hoops to get under the tax line like ours has (and then claim it was a fluke, an accident!)? we are looking at the trade exceptions only because they've been using our draft picks and cash allotment to dump salaries, and they refuse to utilize the MLE on player acquisition. and of course the westbrook trade was not expanded. basically improving the roster is not an option wherever the tax line comes into play
