Hey guys, I don't know whether or not this topic has come up before now (this is ClutchCity, where we talk about everything, so I'm sure it has), but I wanna know what you think about what is considered bad conduct in sports. I point to only a couple of examples that I can vaguely remember: the Mavs win over ? where a certain score (I think 100) would earn everyone in attendance a chalupa (or something like that) and a kiddie national football championship where one of the teams completely blew out the other team. Sorry I can't give more detail than that, but I remember the opposing team in the Mavs game being very angry about it and the winning coach in the kiddie national football championship game being fired (I think). Man, I don't understand why losing teams take higher win margins so personally. Is it just me? The game continues until the final buzzer sounds, right? The winning team doesn't just stop playing the game because of the lead....or allow the other team to come back, right? I do realize that teams with big leads take their starters out of the game, but I thought that they did that to ensure that they do not get a surprise injury or even rest as a reward for securing the game. If big blow-outs are so unsportsman-like, why doesn't the game end at the point that it is considered a blow-out? My apology for the ramble. I'd love to hear your opinions. Peace. ------------------ 5..4..3..2..1.....We have lift off! Go Rockets! [This message has been edited by BlastOff (edited May 06, 2001).]
That was a Mav game against Cleveland. They couldn't stand it that the Mavs were playing for 48 minutes. Sometimes it can get annoying for opposing fans, but it is not unsportsmanlike. ------------------ WIN NOW! The Protrolls.com message boards! Hey, I've got posts now! I believe in going all out until the final buzze, but there can be limits even to that. You can lose graciously and you can win humbly. ------------------ DREAMer's Rocket Page
I think there should be a differntiation between professional and amatuer sports. For amatuers, there's no excuse to run up the score like that. For professionals, that is their job to play basketball. If they are getting blown out it is because they did not do their job well enough. If I did poor work at my job, and an opposing company was crushing us, I couldn't call them up and ask them to call off the dogs. I'd get laughed off the phone. I don't see any reason to feel sorry for a professional ball player because one team's third stringer scored a bucket late in the game. ------------------ Founder and President of the Houston Homers Club(HHC) - Are you a homer? Here's a thread where I and others raked the Cavs over the coals for being such sissies about it. I was especially witty. http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/001568.html ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes

Thanks for the link, Juan. Knew it was discussed here at some point! I agree with those who think that teams who cry over blowouts are even bigger losers. They should take the beating like men (and maybe get a lil payback next time 'round!). ------------------ 5..4..3..2..1.....We have lift off! Go Rockets!
