    2019 Maldonado .217/.285/.349
    2019 Stassi .167/.235/.211

Neither desirable but Maldonado better for certain. Gave up a guy (Kemp) we were poised to lose for nothing. Injury insurance. Cheerios gets to play less.

This didn't move the needle much, but it is in the right direction.

Pretty much this. They weren't going to replace Stassi and end up worse off, no matter what they did.

Getting Chirinos more days off before the playoffs start is probably where most of the value in this deal resides. He’s only 4 months younger than Brian McCann.

Didnt Maldamado at some point win a gold glove? What are the odds Stassi does that. Ok. He had a bad postseason. Who didn't last year. I think this is an upgrade.. Not a spash but an upgrade. Hell have MM catch half the remaining games to get Chirinos rested.

MM also has some power when he can actually connect which is more so then Stassi,

Chirinos 50%, Maldonado 33%, Stassi 16%. Or in a typical 6 day spread, 3-2-1. Gotta play Stassi some.

Why on earth would they keep Stassi?

Not sure. But until I see the team got rid of him, he is on the team and I assume he plays occasionally.

No way Stassi stays now. I think he gets designated for assignment ASAP. With Alvarez, Diaz, Marisnick, Straw, there is no room for a 3rd catcher who can’t hit better than a pitcher and whom some pitchers don’t want to work with.

I was very hopeful Stassi was going to be a long term solution. I thought he was going to surprise, but he has regressed. Astros put a lot of work into developing him as a catcher, and he is an elite pitch framer.

I can see him definitely catching on with another team, as top pitch framers have a place on a lot of teams. It’s just the Astros have Verlander, Miley, and Cole who don’t really need what Stassi can offer.

I would assume they're waiting for physicals and the trade to be official before doing anything with Stassi.

Works for me. Stassi was an automatic out at the plate, way worse than Reddick. And Chirinos can get more regular season rest since Martin can prob catch all our pitchers just fine.

Chirinos probably starts every game in the playoffs, so don't be too concerned about Maldonado's failures behind the plate last year. Chirinos does need more rest these last 2 months heading into the playoffs.
