"For now, Oklahoma City doesn't feel a need to surrender draft compensation to unload Paul's contract,".... Good luck trying to pry those picks from Sam Presti cold dead hands...
No, the issue was that by staying as above cap team we had the full MLE. That's how we were able to sign PJ Tucker. We could have opened cap room by moving out guys (that we ended up moving anyway) but would have had no MLE.
Right now they are competitive. They want to totally year down, as in top 3 worse record rebuild. Right now they are a competitive team that might be a lottery team, might be a fringe playoff team and is super expensive. I think right now they project as like the third highest payroll in the league?
I understand because the President of the Players' Association got a chip on his shoulder. And guys like Gallo and Adams are not bad enough. I would trade Adams. They will still make an attempt near the trade deadline or earlier to unload Paul.
Yeah I think they'll try to trade Adams, Gallo and CP3. I wouldn't be shocked to see the Lakers deal expirings for CP3 in December or at the deadline. They might get him for basically nothing.
I went back and checked and you're right. http://rockets.clutchfans.net/10546/houston-rockets-chris-paul-blockbuster-trade/ It would've only cost Anderson and one of Bev/Lou. Might have taken quite a bit to move off Anderson who had 3/63 million left.
We already gave up 1 pick to get CP3, what would another pick have meant haha. At the time though, having CP3+Tucker was better than say CP3+Bev+Trez, etc. Bev wanted out, Lou wasn't a "fit" apparently... In a perfect world we would have redone it to where we traded Gordon+ for Paul George after getting CP3.
Not sure what happened during that whole PG debacle. Did we not have a chance to trade for Paul George before he got to OKC? I guess they wanted young talent, and EG is just old? Wow. I can't imagine that we couldn't pull together like a 3-way trade so Pacers can get someone younger and we still move EG's contract.
They would need to trade green + kcp + bradley + some one else to hit 30 mil. All those are only 2 year contracts, but it can only be done in December. I don't see how they could trade for CP3 without the green contract in there. AD+LBJ+CP3 would be a pretty good three some. Lebron can go sign melo and wade and his banana boat dreams will come true.
To me, Gordon is probably Morey's biggest enigma. Looking at how DM structured the Ryno/Gordon contracts I think he always wanted to send them both out in exchange for a star player. Then, when Gordon really broke out and meshed with Harden DM was put in a tight spot. Realistically I think we missed out on players like PG and JB because Gordon just created a bit of an enigma on what the Rockets could live with and without.
i hated sipeethree before the rockets and glad i can hate him again now. hope he stays with okc throughout his contract and retires on a down.
They can, but i don't think CP3 would be willing to waste the rest of his career in OKC, and Presti has probably no interest in keeping his contract around too much either...i think they might be fine to stay together until the deadline or a year, but i don't see Chris being still there by the start of the next season.
Rockets wanted a long-term commitment from Paul George before giving away any more real assets. We had already given up more than we wanted in the CP3 deal, and a deal for Paul George would have left us bereft of any depth. OKC was in position to make the deal because they didn't need the assurance from him, and they were willing to do anything to fill the void that KD left.
Chris Paul will be traded before the start of training camp. Pat Riley is posturing so he can squeeze a pick or two from Presti in the process. Nobody else has the stomach for Paul right now, nor will they have it next summer. Only the desperate will take him.
Presti gave us Harden and got rid of Paul’s ridiculous contract. His suit needs to be hanging in the rafters at Toyota.
