I have not put a chart to this, but last night, I watched as Jackson literally waited for Yao to take the ball out of bounds. And it seems to me Yao's been taking the ball out a lot. Perhaps that is an illusion. I don't know. But that's the last thing Yao should be doing. Because it means he's got an extra 20 feet to run, then he's got to catch up to the offense, and then he's usually the last person to set up in position. Just seems like a big waste of effort for someone who needs to be conserving energy.
That is probably an isolated incident. One of the first things JVG did was insist that Yao NOT take it out of bounds but rather get up court and set his post position early. Before JVG got here they really didn't seem to care either way in terms of Yao taking it out of bounds.
A big time post up player should never be inbounding the ball(after an opponents made shot)...ever. I don't think it happens that often (with Yao).
I've seen him done it maybe 2-3 times this season. So it's not a big problem. I'm sure everybody knows that he shouldn't take inbounds.
Normally is the PF or the SF that takes the ball out of bounds. Yao does it once in awhile if he is already under the basket for some reason.
Yao did inbound the ball a few times the last few games, probably as many as he's done the entire season. I doubt that he will be doing that a lot. I guess this thread is a good place to commend JVG for implementing a simple change that helps preserving Yao's energy. Last year, Yao inbounded the ball after opponent's made basket a lot because he was naturally the closest player to the basket. He also lined up when we shot FT's. It meant he had to sprint ~30 times a game un-necessarily. Jeff cut them out and it has helped keeping Yao a little fresher.
