Westbrook was really good two years ago. In the playoff against the rockets every time he left the floor we made a run.

This seems like one of those things where the eye test leads you to similar conclusions.

Just going by the eye test, I'm a little skeptical of a metric that has Westbrook's 2016 as superior to his 2017. The difference in him being a 34% shooter on 3s relative to a 29% shooter is... significant.

I don't know if I agree with this, I get that data generally makes him look bad but my impression of watching him hasalways been that he was extremely impactful.

Me a week ago: This makes sense. I've felt Russ has been overrated by these stats for a while. He never deserved that MVP over our boy Harden.

Me today: Who cares what Nate Bronze has to say anyway, didn't this guy say Hillary was going to win?

The light only shines when he became a Rocket. WTF?

What happened to the "The man averages a triple double" bs?

Part of being a great team and having a great system is that you bring the best out of your players and put your players in a position to succeed.

The eye test correctly identifies the supreme athleticism, talent, and tenacity that Westbrook has. Those intangibles are invaluable for any team hoping to win a championship

The data views him as an asset that produces certain, nonoptimal datasets, many of which are underwhelming relative to his contract.

For the Rockets to be successful, they have to utilize Westbrook so that the numbers reflect the value we see in the eye test. They have the personnel, coaching staff, and front office to make that happen.

I remember not being close to a shooter being brought up before and yes we know he is a bad defender and goes for ‘cheap’ rebounds over boxing out and closing out on a shooter. Let’s see how he does.

He’s overrated but we have the Rockets improving after the trade and finishing as the one seed.

This makes lots of sense now. A lot of these stat metrics tend to really overrate rebounding in general (wages of wins, if i recall, was really bad about this). Seems like there should be some concept of adjusted +/- rebound rate, adjusted for players & opposition.

Like, player x is on the floor and rebound rate increases, but oh it's because he's sharing time with elite rebounder/boxer outer so....
