As usual, trump was all talk, no results. As Its Drug Pricing Plans Fall Through, Trump Administration Turns To Congress To Act https://www.npr.org/sections/health...ugh-trump-administration-turns-to-congress-to Judge strikes down Trump administration's bid to require drug companies to list prices in TV ads https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...rices-trump-administration-tv-ads/1680242001/
It's an interesting and important topic. I once tried to find out what my scrip would cost without insurance; how much insurance was paying, etc. Good luck with that. The whole point of the insurance companies is to keep you in the dark; and that's how health care costs get ratcheted up. A more reasonable alternative is to allow prescriptions to be fulfilled in Canada and Mexico, and mailed to those that need it. The price would almost assuredly be less. As a side note, as anyone who has got their scrip fulfilled overseas, you see the %$#&-ing that scrip drug users are taking here. And that's also the point.
almost every expensive drugs/treatment prescribed in Canada has to go through a system called " CAP "in which the government agency will make a list of negotiable drugs with pharma industry before the next fiscal year, which often result in a discount or total elimination. It does not always put pressure on companies, take CAR-T for instance, 50k consultation fees ,950k for treatment, no single penny will be waived under any circumstances
Couple of interesting articles on the topic of importing scrip drugs from Canada into US: https://www.politico.com/story/2019/02/21/canada-prescription-drugs-1188578 https://www.npr.org/sections/health...-medicine-from-canada-but-how-would-that-work In the NPR article, it looks like states are moving forward while the feds dither. The great part of this idea is that it allows the market to work, and gets govt out of the way -- rather than impose more govt programs and taxes on the consumer. Interestingly, this type of action is inherently in line with Jacksonian liberalism -- get govt barriers out of the way; let the market work.
