"WEBB: Hey Sacramento. It's been real. You think you can help me go to New York?
SAC: Not unless they'll give us A. Houston & Camby.
WEBB: Well then they'll suck. I guess I'm going to Orlando then.
SAC: Not unless they give us a couple of their best players.
WEBB: Screw that. I wanna play for a contender. I guess I'll head on out to Houston then.
SAC: You think they will give us anyone good?
WEBB: Don't bet on it. I'll send you guys a couple of playoff tickets when the season's over."

if webber wanted to play for a contender he definitely wouldn't choose to go to Houston of all places. You Rocket Fans keep saying that the Kings should take Mo taylor in a s&t because he's a good young forward. If he was sooooo good then why didn't he do anythin for you guys? He's even softer then Webber is-- The Kings have bargaining power with webber in that they don't have to accept a sign and trade with anyone just for the sake of making cwebb happy-- they'll be content to just let him walk rather then take on some overpaid role players salaries-- the only team that he could really walk to is the rockets, but he has said on repeated occasions that he wants someone to bang with him down low-- Who is gonna fill that role on the rockets? bullard, cato????? The Rockets have an excellent backcourt but in the west that will get you nowhere. You have to have a strong inside game to battle teams like the spurs and lakers, and by signing webber alone, the rockets will not magically have one. I still think that after all is said and done, Chris Webber will remain a Sacramento King.

    woo hoo,

MManal is in the bet. So is rocketsfan34. Draftsource is going to make me sweat! The Cat needs to come get some, too.

btw MManal: I didn't mean make a deal with the Kings on draft day. I meant draft with the *anticipation* of getting someone to use in a Kings S&T.

You're wrong about him staying with the Kings. Wrong, wrong, wrong. When push came to shove, Divac and Pollard did nothing against Shaq. Divac pulled his typical whining act but that was it. And Webber seemed kinda p.o.'d.

Forget about re-signing Webber. We can get a sign-and-trade going that helps the two teams, but a 3rd party would have to be involved such as New Jersey (KVH).

Whether or not the Rox get him, Webber will not stay in Sacramento. I'm sorry, but you're gonna be stuck with Golden State.

    hey bayman,

Do you think the Kings have *any* power to move Webber to a team not on his elite list? I agree with you btw. Houston fans thinking we can S&T for Webber so we don't have to renounce Shandon or Dream are applying homey logic. I love them for that, but I can't see it happening.

Miami has so much more to offer in a S&T it isn't funny. Contender...dominating center...Brian Grant or Eddie Jones...even a young fast Eddie House. New York has comprabable to us for sure, and if the Allen Houston can be packaged, I could see NY demanding Turkoglu and Kings countering with demanding Thomas. I can't help but believe that a Webber S&T will be a blockbuster, gutsy deal from both sides.

what do you mean where gonna be stuck with golden state? that's a typical ignorant statement along the lines of shaq's expansionism quote. Webber wasn't the only reason this team won 55 games this season-- We have Peja, Hedo, Christie, Jackson, etc. all guys who stepped up and played great this season. We beat phoenix in round 1 in spite of webber, not because of him. We have the best GM in the league and excellent owners, yet you still think were gonna go from 55 wins to about 25 next season? you're on crack out there in houston. And what makes you such an expert on whether webber is gonna leave or not?? oh wait, you must be listening to vecsey, and ric bucher all day-- All those so-called experts predicted before the season that we wouldn't even make the playoffs or barely get the 8th seed this year-- and what did we do? We won 55 games and had the 4th best record in the league-- and swept the rockets i might add-- I'm gonna be laughin in a couple of months when webber resigns with the kings and all of you rocket fans will scramble to resign mo taylor's sorry a$$!!!

    bayareakingsfan,
I don't agree that Webber will stay in Sacramento, but I do agree mostly with your assessment of the Rockets as an option for Webber. The fact that we're not a contender and lack a true big man banger down low (although I don't Divac and Pollard are much to brag about) is something many people on this BBS is overlooking in their desire to get Webber. However, I do feel that Rudy and CD and Stevie might still convince Webber that they're addressing these concerns, and he should jump aboard anyway.

Just out of curiosity, if Webber were to leave Sacramento, what team would you wager he'd most likely jump to?

if he does go to another team, i don't think that it'll be any team in the western conference. All Rocket fans seems to feel that the Rockets can overtake the lakers and the spurs with webber. That couldn't be further than the truth. If he leaves hes gonna go back east to a team that can at least get to the nba finals and once you get there, anything can happen. he doesn't really like the idea of having to compete against shaq and duncan just to get to the nba finals-- I don't think he'll go to the knicks because he can't handle the pressure of being in new york. Imagine what the press in ny would write about him if he played as softly as he did for the kings for the last few weeks? I'm thinking that he wants to go to orlando, and am hoping that if he really is gonna leave, that we can ship him to indiana and get jermaine o'neal and maybe a al harrington or travis best back in return-- we'll see what happens

Webber will leave. I'm still not sold that Houston is his #1 choice, but I think the Rockets are up there.

and if webber walks to Houston Sacramento will not be a playoff team no matter how many roleplayers they get to surround Peja.

    Kingsfan,

I do not mean to burst your fantasy bubble but :

1)C-Webb is gone. He's not resigning with Sacramento, because when push came to shove the majority of your team went Houdini, and dissapeared versus the Lakers.

    2) Your entire offense is predicated upon C-Webb's presence in the post. W/o Webber, your team will not be as good because you rely on him so much. He was head and shoulders above the rest of that team and without Webber, all those open shots that even Jason Williams can make will dissapear. Peja is good, but Rick Fox figured him out, if forced to carry the team, how long until the rest of the league figures him out.

Sans Webber, you may not drop to the level of Golden St, but you will be missing the playoffs.

criscokid-- if webber leaves, the kings will get really good players in return-- for example everyone keeps bringing up the webber to new york trade rumors-- it would send webber to the knicks for houston and camby-- the kings lineup would be:

    pg-- jwill, jackson
    sg-- houston, christie, barry
    sf-- peja, hedo
    pf-- camby, pollard, funderburke
    c-- divac, pollard, draft pick?

you don't think that the roster above would make the playoffs? you gotta be smokin sumthin if you don't--
i've also heard a rumor about webb to indiana for o'neal and harrington-- if that deal was to be made you don't think we'd be a playoff team? The kings have the best gm in the league and he's not gonna let the kings go back down to the warriors level--

I think Sacramento could make the playoffs if they get some good players from a sign and trade. But what I said is if Webber just walks and does no sign and trade the Kings will not make the playoffs.

And they have to get players that would fit their team to make the playoffs. Camby and Houston do not work(even if it was possible to get Houston). JOneal and change might work, but does webber want to go there? Is the Kings gm high on Oneal? Are the Pacers that high on Webber? Lot of questions.

Regardless, the Kings aren't going to get a Webber quality player back in a sign and trade, so they may make the playoffs but it would be a struggle, unlike this year.

BTW, how much longer is Divac going to play?

There's no way A. Houston would agree to go to Sacramento. Why would he want to go there?

Also getting O'Neal and Harrington would be nice, but what makes you think they'll push the Kings into the playoffs when they could barely help push the Pacers into them?

I agree that Webber's probably not going to Houston, but you need to open your eyes about Webber coming back. Not just Vescey, Bucher, and Ramsay think he's going, YOUR OWN MEDIA THINKS HE'S GOING TOO.

IMO, every team needs a leader, who would be the leader on a webber-less king team?

I guess I have to repeat my question:

Why hasn't a S&T with Miami ever been mentioned? It will require a 3rd team if they use Jones or Grant in the trade, but that team seems perfectly suited for what Webber wants.

Of coure, maybe Webber thinks Riley will be too hard on him, and Riley doesn't think he needs to make a blockbuster deal like that.

First of all, yes the Kings got swept by the Lakers, but every team goes through a growing process in the playoffs. It took the 76ers 3 years before they finally got past Indiana in the playoffs this year. The Lakers, prior to winning the title last year, were swept out 3 years in a row before that. Yea, the Kings got swept, but they're a young team that will learn from this. The team as a whole disappeared in the playoffs. Webber was ineffective and refused to pound it inside against grant and horry.

Our entire offense is not predicated on webber. You've probably watched about 10-15 games all year and think you have them all figured out sittin in Houston. When Webber missed 12 games with his ankle injury, do you know what the kings record was and what their scoring average was? it was on par with their record and average with webber in the lineup. Scot pollard started all those games in webbers place and average about 14 points and 12 rebounds a game. The kings offense is predicated on motion. Their offense would and has run just as effectively with Divac bein the main inside post up presence. Rick Fox might have slowed down peja to a certain degree, but peja still scored above his season average and went off in the last game against him. Peja is only 23 years old and will learn to get open and away from physical defenders such as fox. If it was so easy for him to figure peja out, how come no one else did all season? Next thing your gonna tell me is that Walt Williams has him figured out too! This season was a learning experience and they'll be improved next year.

it's funny how all of you rocket fans think they know what's goin on in webbers mind. all you hear about is what the national media writes. It's funny how all of the comments that he made this year, and even during the playoffs, that indicated that he would like to stay are somehow omitted from all of these articles. We'll see who get's the last laugh, remember you're gonna be scrambling to resign mo taylor--

Heypee, I don't see something with Miami working. I don't think Riley wants to give up Jones. And I don't think there are a lot of teams beating down Riley's door to get Grant's huge contract, esp based on his performance this year. Besides, why would Riley actually make Sacramento a decent offer? [IMG]

Riley will probably just retool his lineup and try desperately to find a healthy point.

What do you think of this bi-uid? [IMG]

First off kings fan I think it's time to face the music. Webber's gone. Not because the media says it, but because he has just about said with all the hints you close your ears to. I don't know if he'll come here, but so what if he doesn't. We won't be in bad shape with Mo and then Dream will come back. Let's look at other scenarios.

    1. indiana - Good for S&T, but if he wants out of sac-town why would he go here.

    2. n.y. - Houston said he doesn't want to go to sac-town and your own media said the kings don't want him. Too many complications for this too happen.

    3. orlando - they'll have to give away too many players to get him. Who can they give? miller. Though it could happen I just don't see it.

    4. miami - They already have enough talent and they got swept in the first round. If he goes they might end up like the next portland.

Sign & trade may be in the best interests of Sacramento, but it wouldn't be in Webber's best interest.

If a team has to give up 2 of its best players to get Webber, then how in the world can that team expect to be championship-caliber? Houston doesn't have to give up diddly to get Webber, and that has to be attractive.

In Webber's absence, the Kings were 7-5, losing the only three games they played vs. Western conference play-off teams. Over an 82 game season, you will play Western Conference playoff teams more than once every four games.

Please don't tell me that your team did not revolve around Webber, it did, and w/o Webber it will suffer, and you will not make the playoffs.

    HeyP,

Actually someone brought up the topic of Miami on the Rocket Guy's web site. The writer for the Miami page at bskball mentioned Anthony Mason being on the block. It was discussed that Riley would take Cato, needing another center, and needing to shed a power forward...but even if this were true, the idea was to add Moochie to that mix (I said a draft pick, but what do I know?) That's when I balked. Even if we got rid of Cato, would we do that?

And if we traded for Mason, it would be to send him somewhere in a 3-way trade. I sure don't want him. I'm sure the Rox and the Kings don't want him either.

I thought about the Miami idea w/ Webber but Riley would really have to kill any last bit of credibility because he remarked about Philly's lack of loyalty in trading Ratliff. To get Webber, he would have to send Grant, who fled the Kings several years ago.
