I expect them to say nothing actually. Last year it was "pick of the free agents" then it was "saving our MLE for the buyout market." Now it's "We'll be deep into the tax!" "extremely confident about Butler" "will at least add a starter with the MLE" "Favorites in the West!"
I get that, but Morey is under the impression that some of these players value winning vs being the man. Also, the Rockets are a business, designed to make money. It's better to create and buzz and lose, then to never create a buzz at all. I don't expect the front office to be silent leading up to one of the most exciting days of the year as an NBA fan.
I think Houston does not need Butler to win the championship next season. Moreover, I think that according to what was being talked Morey was willing to resign too much. But Morey's communication strategy (and the rest of his staff) is incorrect. They insist on generating false expectations that end up creating an atmosphere of disagreement. Daryl needs to find the final piece of this team as soon as possible, before the expectations that he has generated will end up playing against him.
Bunch of whiners. We have a GM that swings for the fences when it comes to big names, is excellent at finding role players that consistently play over their contracts and has consistently kept this team put together to compete at a championship level. It’s not his fault the warriors put together a freakin super team and top tier FAs would rather go to nicer cities that aren’t 150 degrees 9 months out of the year. I don’t know who you haters think is going to come here and do any better. There’s not a lot of good gms out there looking for work you know. As is this team has as good a chance to win it all next year. You guys are spoiled. I’ve watched the rockets since the early 70s. Trust me DM is the best GM we’ve ever had. You replace him and you better be ready for a free fall. Houston is not a city where superstars want to come play. Building through the draft doesn’t work anymore. To win championships now you must have stars. DM recognizes this and does about as good a job as you could do in this city. We’ve been right there the last few years.
Yeah, if he has another miserable offseason and can't fix it next offseason, he needs to go. He hard-capped the team because of all these extravagant deals (don't forget Ryno's) and now is striking out on every star he's clearly desperate to acquire. That just looks pathetic. At least, work behind the scenes. You're going to become the laughing stock of the league if you keep proclaiming that you're confident in acquiring a star and then failing at it.
Y’all need to remember that Houston is not the most exciting place to live. Free agents really only go to hot spots and Houston definitely isn’t a hot spot.
I'm b****ing about it since last offseason. I was criticized by almost everyone except for you and cheke, but my unfortunately pessimism prophecies just materialize time and time again..... Opposite to the local nostradamus with his cryptic **** that at the end of the day almost never is even close to reality. First big red flag was letting go Ariza with LMM without any substitute. I get it Trevor was too expensive and LMM was injury case but thats 2 multiversatile wings with exprience that was foundation of a championship level team. They gave us idenity, our chemistry was great with them etc. When MCW came in for them along with Melo - that was second BIG red flag. There were a lot of rumours back ten with for example LBJ which looks laughable right now. Then we had all of that 'our crop of free agents' bullshit which materialized in trading Ryno which would be HUGE right now along with MELTON WHILE WE DIDN'T HAVE BACKUP POINT(SICK) for ****in CHRISS and KNIGHT(who was coming off an injury). THEN WE TRADE THEM ALONG WITH 1st ROUND PICK for ****in expiring in a half of a year Shumpert? We turn Ryan Anderson albatross contract along with good prospect and another pick for Iman Shumpert? And then in current freeagency we fail to add versatility and athleticism on the wing YET AGAIN(all of the best agents are gone already), and we looking to resign Iman Shumpert that played like hot garbage? We look into gleague for replacement for Ariza(D House)? We massively overpaid Clint Capela while Nets can get DeAndre for 10 a year? 2 season ago we were great, like really one of the best teams in last two decades - for 8 months. And then we proceeded to ****in rip that **** apart. Thats a torn in my heart and I ****in hate it. We are good. Yes I know. But we aren't good enough and we arent nearly close to be what we was. With every year our roster is older and we have no picks to put some fresh blood in. We failed in trades and in freeagency... this Butler thing really gave me hope and while we will have chance for championship as long as we are playing this window is almost closed and it's due to our own mistakes. Meanwhile we probably will have to deal not only with GSW come playofftime(still with Klay, Curyy and now Russel, the same team we couldn't finish off without Durant and Russel) but now with Lakers too and whoever the **** comes out of east....All of those teams look better on paper right now, on both roster and coaching.... And im sure they will pickup some great additions come midseason like Gasol last year. I just don't see it with current roster and I don't think cosmetic changes are nearly enough. It's still pretty cool to beat down Utah but I want a ring
