he's good regular season depth. he's good for the locker room and the community engagement. at the minimum you can't go wrong. he just shouldn't be in a playoff rotation. we had no damn bench last season. one of the arguments about giving up 2 starters for butler is that we only had 6 NBA roation caliber players, rivers will be priced out of our reach and then we give up ego and clint, that brings us down to 4 guys, add someone like looney at center and only vet mins like Gerald off the bench again. if we don't get jimmy (I hope we do get him), we can bring back 5 guys and still use the NTMLE to add 1 or split it between 2 more rotation caliber players. we'd be deeper that way. but of course more star power with jimmy and we can always restock the bench on the fly and next summer.
Gerald Green is a great regular season player. When it's a random Wednesday night against the Suns he may go off and drop 25 or something or hit a big shot and you need players like this on the team as long as you are not overpaying them.
Always felt like that was a given. Lose Faried Lose Austin Rivers Outside chance House plays under the QO amount. Shumpert as a fall back signing if desperate.
That's on D'Antoni for not pulling him after the first one and for not ensuring that Green knows what his role is out there.
THIS He's the perfect guy to have that can step up in the regular season and play big minutes when one of your main rotation guys is hurt or cold. Just having a guy who can play decent for the minimum is a plus.
Bench is the thinnest in nba. Result could be old, small, weak, undrafted or two way players. Jazz and Gs buy 2 picks each this month.
I agree with most of this with slight differences of opinion. letting Faried go was a given. rivers I think is a maybe. probably gets overpaid somewhere but if we strike out on better MLE targets we may turn back to him if he's still on the market. house I think is likely to come back on the QO. I don't see anyone else offering him the TMLE or even half. shumpert is a fallback if we don't land a high priced star like jimmy, horford, love, or Vucevic. 1 year deal in the 12-15M range creates a good trade chip when packaged with a pick. you could even make it mostly NG'd. assume he gets offers for the TMLE or just the room MLE. we'd only have to guarantee maybe a half mil above his best offer, consider it a bonus for letting us shop you around and trade you at the deadline.
Hes a great option to have for when players get injured but you dont want him as a core rotation player in the playoffs. Love the guy and hes great in the locker room. Glad to have him back.
Green should be a fringe rotation guy meaning if you have players hurt he can step in and help until you get healthy. If we expect him to play in playoff pressure we are going to be really disappointed.
I just dined on some homemade nachos with fresh avocado, accompanied by some tasty vino, thanks to my significant other. Is that the kind of dining you guys are talking about? Actually, her initials are G. G., at least they used to be. ;-)
Free agent Gerald Green is meeting with the Houston Rockets in Houston on Sunday and both sides are motivated to move quickly toward reaching a 1-year, $713k deal, league sources tell ESPN.
You people spend hours here trashing the good players but the one guy who may have literally lost us several close games against GS is loved? Gerald Green was a disaster every single game of the postseason. I swear to god he cost us game 1 against GS with some of the most senseless defense ever.
So we differ on Rivers because I feel there are bad enough teams with money that offer him more than we can afford. House gets offered more than we can afford as well. SF’s are high in demand and I can see him offered $10M. I posted House numbers yesterday are they were not bad for SF starters.....those numbers were on the whole, they get even better when you look at them as starter minutes only. The Atl, Dallas, Memphis....half the league could use him. You may be right, I’m of the belief the league is set up to have either “Haves” and “Have Nots”......teams are lining up the team with 3 or 4 players making the money and everyone else gets crumbs. Big gap in the middle. Where will House and Rivers fall in the scope of this league? Teams have the cap going from $101M to $109M.....some have the space to add Rivers at $9 to $10M and House finds himself in a good supply and demand position. Take Care.
HIGH KEY. He should not be in the NBA. You people just ignore how he’s the worst defender on the team. He is so bad it’s not even funny. And you know D’Antoni will play him in the playoffs AGAIN.
