    This is an op-ed by Jennifer Rubin, a conservative republican (and admitted trump critic). Is this true? Is it fair to blame it on trump?

    Nay, he’s a symptom... unfortunately or maybe fortunately. This refusal by religious folks claiming they themselves are victim (eg. no more jesus and prayer in classroom) was already building up for decades and trending before trump.

    I'd agree. But, I'd also say if Trump's presidency is a symptom, it's also been itself a cause of wider expansion of this view.
