All drugs should be decriminalized, first of all and then legalized. Once upon a time, I believed that only mar1juana should be legalized, but now I realize that prohibition and not the drugs themselves is the greatest evil. Andymoon has done a super job detailing why we need legalization, but I think that we could replicate similar drug programs in Europe, with similar success. Imagine if all the Coast Guard and Federal LE assets were used to defend our nation from a real threat, terrorism? If people want to ingest heroin, why not let them? It's their body and their choice. As for mar1juana, there is no rational reason why we should continue a prohibition on such a harmless vice.

Let's at least start with legalizing the sweet ganja, then put a tax on cookies, ice cream, chips, and other "muchable" things.

Can you provide justification for this?

Specifically, I would ask you to justify this given the growing proof we have that prohibiting drug sales causes more harm than drugs themselves. The only reason prohibition is still around as a policy is because of the tremendous dollars spent and profits made. We are paying over a hundred billion dollars per year (in the US) for a policy that has increased violence, enriched criminals, and destroyed more families and lives than drugs ever could. The futility is clearly shown when you see that half of our young people will use illegal drugs before they leave high school, roughly the same percentage as when we began this fiasco 32 years ago.

A healthcare and education centric approach is the only way to deal with the issue of drug use in society.
