I voted for Love and Basketball, mostly because I enjoyed it a lot, and no one else voted for it, although I almost voted for Hoosiers. (my wife and mine's first kiss was during Hoosiers) Plus, I've never seen Hoop Dreams although I heard it was the best movie ever. I keep meaning to get around to it.
It was "Final Shot: The Hank Gathers Story," a made-for TV (WGN?) movie from 1992. http://imdb.com/title/tt0104270/ The 1990 Loyola Marymount story in general is a very good one (see my username), but I thought the movie was just OK. The action sequences on the 8-foot goals didn't help much, either. (I voted for Hoop Dreams, but Hoosiers is a worthy pick as well. I also thought Blue Chips was borderline good.)
Gosh, I didn't even see Hoop Dreams in the poll...I just clicked Hoosiers as soon as I saw it. Completely forgot! Hoop Dreams was one of the best movies of the 90's. Several parts give me goosembumps. It's so much more than just a basketball movie.
My write in vote is "Heaven is a playground" starring D.B. Sweeney. Also playing a part in the movie non other than HAKEEM OLAJUWON ! Horrible movie but only watched it to see Olajuwon. Movie came out in 1991 incase anyone is interested.
Yes. Starring Rocket Mark Jackson and former Rocket Walt Williams. Has any other basketball movie had 2 Rockets in it. Also, I hated Space Jam, I can't stand all the Jordan worship in real life, but there is no way Jordan and a bunch of "people" who had never played basketball before should be able to beat Barkley, Ewing, Bogues, Johnson, and Bradley.
Also, shouldn't his final basket have counted for three points? That's bugged me ever since I first watched it.
Whats that movie, with the white guy going to like zimbawe to get a tall african player. and at the end the tall guys brother comes to play point gaurd (replacing the white guy) That was a sweet movie... also Love and Basketball was pretty hot ANd HE GOT GAME was sooo word...
Hoops Dreams seemed a bit long with some stretches but the payoff is pretty good. It should be required viewing for high school freshman who play sports. (Either that or the Michener book on sports) It deserves a 2-3 minute epilogue with an update on the characters ala Animal House or Catch Me If You Can.
