If you wanted out of Houston and didn't want to look like a bad guy, how would you do it? Simple. Ask for an amount you know the Rockets won't pay. If you want to leave on good terms, just say "We couldn't agree to a contract that was fair for both sides." If you want to be spiteful, add in a good measure of "they don't respect what I've done".

Fegan, I knew you sucked royally

As an agent, his job is to get his client the most money. If he doesn't do that, he's a bad agent.

His job is NOT to try to improve the Houston Rockets or make the team happy.

Vecsey is a dumba$$. There is no way Dream would really want 10 million. Dream knows he isn't worth that much, and he knows no one will pay that much. I heard earlier this year that he may sign with miami for 1 million. Dream says he want to join either la, miami, or pheonix next year. NONE of those teams will pay him anywhere near that much. I really think Vecsey is making this **** up.

If true, this just sounds like talk out of Fegan to drive up his player's value. He tried to use these tactics to get 6-7 mil out of Utah for Shandon. When its all said and done, I think the Rockets will end up having to offer about 5 mil to Dream to make a deal. The most a contendor like the Lakers will be able to offer is the 4.5 mil exception. Thus, if the Rockets can offer slightly more with an impending signing of Webber, I think Dream would finish his career in Houston. In order to fit Webber and a re-signed Dream at 5 mil, the Rockets are going to have to move some salary on draft night or thereabouts as Orlando did last offseason.

Dream wants to be paid more then Cato! He is still better then Cato ever will be, so it is a matter of pride to him to be paid better then the Catonic bust.
Say you Cap specialist, please tell me that the Wizzards cannot afford Webber? [IMG]

If Shaq had really "been" with Aaliyah (sorry about spelling) I would have given him mad props.

That used to be the rule. It changed in
the last Collective Bargaining Agreement. Nowadays the only major negative to renouncing a player is forfeiting his Bird rights.

Dream NEVER said that this year. He said he felt he wasn't being utilized enough and quite frankly he proved that he wasn't. Remember this quote was around the time Rudy was playing Matt Bullard at center in the fourth over Dream.

Dream has been acting tlike an ass all year, and it is not the first time. As much as he has brought to the franchise on the court, he has repeatedly tried to hold the franchise hostage. For those of you who say that he knows he is not worth 10 mil, keep in mind that earlier this year he felt he should be the focus of the offense. Hakeem has enough money, just as Barkley does, both should be signing for the 1 mil vets minimum next season. I believe Barkley will, how many of you think that Hakeem will follow his example.

Had to make sure everyone saw this before they decided to respond.

Remember, the only time Vecsey is right on ANYTHING is 5 minutes before the draft begins, when he gives everyone the "Scoop" on who the 1st pick is going to be, sometimes who the first 5 picks are going to be. I mean, that info is not exactly top-secret, so take that however you want.

aelliot -- thanks for the initial scoop on the Rockets losing their exceptions if they go below the cap by X amount. That makes more sense now. You can see a video of Marc Stein, Dallas Morning News writer, discussing the possibility of Webber to the Rockets (this is about a month and half old I think, but interesting just the same). He consistently says the Rockets could just give Hakeem $1 million and never made sense to me.

    http://www.txcn.com/video/2001_0403_stein2.rm

"The Rockets do actually have a shot at (Webber)... I wouldn't say they're the favorites, but they're in the top 3...

Hakeem may be willing to come back (for one million) to play with Webber, Francis, Mobley... that's a team that would be a very dangerous squad that would have to be listed as a Western Conference favorite and a title favorite."

Actually the agent's job is to represent his client. That's not always about the money, and I hope by signing any agent's client that is improving the team. If a player wants a certain team/location and the agent is pissing off that squad because he's not giving him the most, he's not exactly doing his job.

While true it's not Fegan's problem that the $10 million request could upset the team (but who knows if this report by Vecsey is even accurate), it is his job to realize what that means: The Rockets are sacrificing basically all of their cap space and any shot at Chris Webber. A lot to ask. Dream would be smart to wait and see what happens with Webber... if the Rockets get passed on, they could re-sign Dream for a high amount for one season and give it another free agent go next season.

    BTW, here's the MSNBC link (<a href="http://www.msnbc.com/news/549652.asp?cp1=1" target="_blank">Full Court Press</a>). Says Vecsey:

The way Webber has been talking recently, you kind of get that feeling that he’s played his last game in Sacramento.

After losing to the Lakers in Game 2, he said that certain guys looked like they didn’t want to be there. While he didn’t say it specifically, it was namely himself that he was talking about.

The Rockets are the team that have the money to give Webber. They don’t have to make any sign-and-trade deals to get him and I think he’s looking to go there.

As for the Knicks, we might see a sign-and-trade for Allan Houston, except the Kings do not want Houston. They would want Marcus Camby. So if Houston is in the deal it would have to be enlarged to a three-team trade.
