All things being equal Charlie wanted to be in Tampa. There’s family there. It’s possible that we could have blown him away with a contract but him staying healthy was a legitimate question mark. I wish him all the best as long as he’s not playing us. Love that guy.

How about the move to get him in the first place... plenty here were saying "who? him? How much? Why?!?"

Stros didn't want to give him the guaranteed 2nd year. Tampa did. God bless Charlie Morton.

Fiers proved absolutely essential for a couple of months in 2017. He was consistently giving them good starts when others were struggling or hurting.

Would I rather them have Hader, now? Absolutely. But, who knows what happens in 2017 without that trade.

Fiers is the answer to the trivia question..."who led the Astros in innings pitched the year they won the World Series for the first time"?

Yep. Also if we’d have signed him probably no Brantley deal. I’d not trade Brantley for Morton. And I love Morton.

It was 15 mil a year. Don't see why they couldn't sign both.

No chance for upgrade at the budget. My hope is we do better than Charlie. And I love Charlie.

it's a long season, odds are he'll miss at least a dozen games and wont be 100% in the playoff.

The FO was trying to trade Reddick in the off season, who knows if that was a factor in not signing Morton. It sure makes sense now if you could swap the two.

Ability was never the fear. Durability was. I hope you are wrong bc I love Charlie and want the best for him (not if it hurts the stros obviously). I fear you are right.

I'd think the main reason he didnt get the 2nd year from the stros is because his age and injury history... and he was a non factor in the playoff last season.

Morton had an all star start to last season too. But he wore down with injuries. I hope Morton keeps playing well, I will root for him when he isn’t playing against the Astros, because he is exciting pítcher to root for.

Morton delivered the World Series championship in 2017, as he pitched stellar to close out the Dodgers.

Morton and Keutchel were integral in the Astros first World Series title. They are still elite players, unfortunately the economics of the game render it impractical to keep the talent together.

Organizations need to keep finding young players to develop because paying veterans market value can lead to financial catastrophe for any team. Professional teams are going to have to be like elite college programs, the players will rotate every 3 or 4 years, but they have to have a program in place to keep churning out competitive teams year after year.

7 years for most. Lifetime for truly special. I trust the FO to execute that plan.
