Also, if Edwards is not viable at convention time, look for Dean delegates to stick with Dean. Not to cause trouble, but to maintain a voice at the convention. We did this with Brown in 92, though we were actually there to cause trouble. It was hella fun, by the way. On the speeches last night: smart but shady as hell. There were two schools of thought on what Edwards did last night. Some said he 'bigfooted' Dean, some said he gave him a while to speak but finally had to get going. I don't care which it was. In what was likely Dean's last major speech, he should have been given the full time. But Kerry definitely bigfooted Edwards (and I think good faith dictated he should have been given his full time too, but good faith is extinct if it ever existed in the first place). It was done with purpose and malice. And it was one of the smartest moves the Kerry camp's made. Make no mistake: these guys are brutal. They have no qualms about playing dirty (much like Rove and the gang). The GOP should take note. A Kerry-Bush race will be the bloodiest in recent memory -- neither campaign is the least bit allergic to shady tactics.
This may belong in the poll thread but I agree that it will be dirty for a different reason - the Bushies poll numbers will be so low that they'll go negative long and deep just to thrash themselves to a respectable poll number and if the Dems have any balls they'll fight back.
CNN's Inside Politics reports that Dean has made overtures to Edwards, Edwards is actively seeking his endorsement and the two are trying to arrange a face to face meeting before March 2.
