Tilman: "So Mike, you really think you want to coach another year? Aren't you about ready to retire and enjoy life?" MDA: "I'm under contract for one more year. I think I'll stay." Tilman fires Jeff Bzdelik. Tilman: "You sure about that?" MDA: "Yeah." Tilman fires Roy Rogers. Tilman: "Ready for retirement now?" MDA: "Nah, I'm good." Tilman fires Mitch Vanya. Tilman: "Now?" MDA: "Nope." Tilman fires John Cho. Tilman: "What about NOW?" MDA: "Still not gonna retire." Tilman fires Irv Roland. Harden: "What the hell, dude?!?"
I know this is funny, but I'll repeat that Tilman has never been afraid of firing coaches. If he wants Mike gone, he'll fire him.
Irv Roland was close to Harden and Paul. I REALLY shouldn't, but I'll give the organization a chance. Can't judge till we see replacements. Hire Ime Udoka or Darvin Ham and I'm sold. The defense wasn't a problem. Once we had a stable roster and some repetition, our defense was good minus the one inexplicable series of plays where the Warriors scored on multiple identical possessions. What's even more impressive is they made Harden a very good defender especially in the playoffs. I hope they're not thinking of overhauling that system. A switching defense is all about personnel. Your big guys can't be too slow, and your guards can't be too short. If Paul didn't have such a high defensive IQ and the character to lead a defense, we would be f'ed with a 6'1 guy at PG. Ideally your PG is at least 6'4. Offensively, our core strategy was excellent, but we did not do anything to reduce the load on Harden or make use of off ball movement. Which to me says you CAN keep the head coach but bring on some assistants with fresh ideas about plans b, c and d. If they fire John Lucas - whose sole purpose seems to be working on Capela - then Capela is probably gone too.
My sense is that we're going to make some really significant player personnel changes this off-season too, which will be very different than last off-season where we really just tried to make a few minor tweaks. Should be interesting, but I think basically everyone outside of James is on the chopping block for the right price....
Who the hell is this guy and why should we care what he tweets? It's not the firing, it's the paying two coaches next year. Do you think he'd be okay with that? I have no idea, tbh.
I just wonder if Tilmorey is letting Harden and CP3 know about these moves in advance, or letting them find out via Twitter.
Good. Fire the staff. Hire a legitimate two-way NBA coach that values common basketball sense, analytics, and has an actual feel for developing talent. Oh yeah, and a real feel for basketball. And then let him hire his staff.
