PORTLAND, Ore. — Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers are expected to come to terms over the summer on a four-year, $191 million supermax contract extension, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Lillard would officially qualify for the supermax if he’s voted to one of the three All-NBA Teams, which is virtually a lock for the four-time All-Star.

Lillard has two years and approximately $62 million remaining on his current deal. The extension would put him under contract for the next six years, and he’d be 34 years old by the time the deal expires, perhaps solidifying his status as arguably the greatest Trail Blazer of all time.

According to rival executives, a new pact for Lillard would almost certainly include a player option, something the guard bypassed on his previous deal.

Lilliard is definitely a max-contract player after these playoffs -- no two opinions about it.

Portland had a great season by their standards after getting swept in the playoffs last year. Blazers should be very proud of beating 2 very tough playoff opponents in the Thunder and Nuggets.

Regardless of how Clutchfans feels about this sweep, there is no shame in getting outmatched and outclassed by a stacked Warriors dynasty.

Going forward, Blazers are going to still be a formidable playoffs opponent especially with Jusuf Nurkic back healthy again next season. Sure, Blazers can't beat the Warriors by any stretch of the imagination, but they will still be a tough roadblock for everyone else in the West.

... but the Blazers should definitely fire or extend their HC.

The rich get unfathomably richer. It's a good thing light casual fans, that know nothing about the game, keep paying those pricey court side tickets. The fact that it's broken product that can afford to sustain itself is amazing.

48 million a year, these supermax deals seem to get crazier every offseason.

yea but after agents, taxes, and other fees, he'll probably only pocket 3 mil per.

You’d be surprised how many court side ticket holders are on this site. Also, they definitely know basketball better than you, going by your post history.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Portland isn't good enough to win a title, even as constructed, but if you let Lillard walk, you lose the best player you've had in the past 20-25 years.

Whether Lillard is worthy of a supermax relative to other players like Harden, Durant, Curry, etc is irrelevant.

They don't have the choice of dumping Lillard to sign, say, Harden for the supermax instead.

Either they sign Lillard for supermax OR they sign some other player(s) with that money instead. But if it's far from clear they can in fact sign better available player(s) instead, they need to re-sign Lillard.

Again the alternative to Lillard has to be a real choice available to Portland, not a theoretical but unrealistic alternative.

I rarely see these dedicated court side Houston Rockets fan show passion when their team is getting screwed.....

The NBA owners can afford to pay these contracts because of the expansion of betting in the NBA. Really sucks because the refs dishonesty has decided many games.

This is Barcelona F.C style contracts. By next free agency it's going to surpass that.
    How did it get here.
