I may just be stating the obvious but whouldnt it be difficult to coach when you dont speak the same language as your players? Do all of the players on the NT speak Engilsh as well as Yao?

Del Harris is a very good coach and teacher.

If you ever watch the Mavs, Harris is the one doing the coaching while Nelson looks like he's in a drunken stupor.

Del always reminded me of Jimmy Stewart. At least the way he talked.

Heh...Yeah, I've always wondered if that was a toupee/wig, or did he dye his hair white.

Natural? Never knew...Zindler that is. Not Del! :D

    Harris to coach Chinese

This is on ESPN.com's front page today. I think it is great for Yao. Del will know how not to wear out the players from relentless & pointless practices more than 6 months from a competition.

hmm seems kind of odd to me to try and win a medal for a country other than your own..

I don't know the specific rules of the olympics. do you have to be a citizen of a country to be on their olympic team... or could you bring in all foreign guys and pay them a lot to win the gold medal..?

after looking I guess there have been plenty of non citizen coaches and you do have to be a citizen to actually play..

There are *lots* of non-citizen coaches.

And there are also rich nations that hire foreign players, give them citizenship, and try to win medals. I remember at the Asian Games, the Qatar basketball team was a bunch of black players from the US.

True, I guess it just bothers me to have people help other countries win in something like the olympics that is supposed to be about your national pride...

I'm pleased to see an NBA calibar coach working with yao over the summer though

If Cuban doesn't let his players go, then why would he allow the coaches? (j/k...:D )

On a more serious note, what if Cuban is secretly behind this whole thing, getting his super-spy Dell Harris to be a double agent, and get in Yao's good graces before he becomes a free agent?

Dell might start speaking the language, and already they'll be a leg-up in the negotiations process.

Then, they can add Yao to that Nellie American Express commercial (where he's talking german, french, spanish, canadian).

But in the end, I'm sure Cuban will just follow the advice of Ben Collins, who said Yao will only average 15 and 5 at his PEAK.

These are the things one day-dreams about during a Rockets' blowout win.

No, Del Harris did not coach the 94-95 Orlando Magic - rather that team was coached by Brian Hill. In fact Del Harris has never coached Orlando Magic.

You need to be a citizen and not have represented another country for 5 years. Although the coach can come from any country.

So will this mean the chinese will be dumping the ball to Ming now rather than the team orientated play we've reading about chinese b-ball? Ming's going end up like Shaq and not be able to play a full season.
