I thought it was pretty embarrassing that it indicates the pitching at RR has been so subpar (for now) that they literally gave up the game. The starters rarely get beyond 5 innings; Whitley hasn't gone past 4 in the last month, which is maybe a reason why they moved him to relief (it doesn't tax your relief, and at least you can get a W that way). Speaking of dog**** terrible, as Luhnow alluded, none of the relievers can hold a lead, which leads to high pitch counts, and thus resulting in your catcher pitching the 12th of a tie game with Alvarez and Tucker on deck in the bottom half. The two relievers w/ MLB experience, Deetz is now on IR and both he and Guduan have WHIPs around 2. Rant over.

I fully expect the AAA relief woes to be resolved by July 31 via trade and promotions, as well as individual improvement. Until then, keeping very low expectations, though didn't think it would get as bad as giving up a game.

I hear so many people say this over and over, and while we never know what we read is true and what isn't, all reports were that the Rockies would have taken Rodgers even if they picked 1st overall, and the Rangers wanted the best pitcher in the draft (funny they took the wrong one but...)

Reality is we likely still get Bregman, but we wouldn't have gotten Tucker. Either way it likely worked out best for us that we actually took Aiken and ended up with Tucker, if we didn't take Aiken we were likely taking Kolek who has disappeared, or possibly Rodon who still wouldn't be better than having Tucker

Thanks for the reply. I knew the bullpen was bad, but not "give up in a tie game" bad. Mostly annoyed because I felt like a dumbass for sticking around lol

Astros took Bregman with the second pick which they had for not signing Aiken. Whether or not they got Bregman had they signed Aiken, depends if he fell to Tucker’s spot.

Maybe “almost certainly don’t get Bregman” was inaccurate. But it was definitely a risk. Of course, if we are time traveling I would have them take Turner instead of Aiken and Bryant instead of Appel. You give up Osuna (no Giles without Appel) and Tucker (assuming they take Bregman 4th) but otherwise, wow:

    RF Springer
    CF Turner
    3B Bregman
    2B Altuve
    1B Bryant
    SS Correa
    DH Brantley
    C Chirinos
    LF Reddick

Quad Cities defeated Kane County 4-1 this afternoon.

César Salazar finished 3-3 with a sac fly and an RBI single. Jeremy Peña doubled and scored a run; he's now slashing .270/.371/.419 on the season.

Brett Daniels pitched six innings of one-run ball and allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out four. Austin Hansen got the last three innings and allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out five.

Still very intrigued by Austin Dennis. Insanely low k rate (12%), has 7 SB in 28 games and has played 2B, 3B, and all 3 OF spots. By those numbers alone you can probably grade his contact, arm, glove, and speed tools all as at least above average, with the contact tool probably as elite. His plate discipline looks fine judging from the walk rate of 9%. So basically his power is the only question. We’ve seen that from guys before (like Bobby Boyd) but usually those guys are small; Dennis isn’t a big guy but at a legit 5’11” 170lbs he doesn’t look like size or athleticism is what’s preventing him from hitting for power.

I think he's probably there since Carmen Benedetti getting placed on the IL opened up a roster spot.

Whoa. Talk about an aggressive placement. IF that’s more than just a temporary move, it’s a phenomenal sign. Any kind of success there would have him skyrocket up prospect lists.

Wins and losses are not the end all of minor league baseball.

2B prospects over the last 5 years who have maintained a k rate of <15% at a full season level (min 200 pa):

    Ronald Torreyes
    Enrique Hernandez
    Alex Bregman
    Tony Kemp
    Joe Sclafani
    Nick Tanielu
    Rodrigo Ayarza

4 reached the majors, 2 reached AAA, and 1 busted.

With RR's pitching staff depleted and Brady Rodgers being called up, could this mean Tyler Ivey gets the promotion?... one can only hope.

They've moved up Sanabria for now. Which is somewhat notable

2018 draftee Layne Henderson makes his first appearance on a full season roster, joining Santana in Corpus.

Sanabria has turned himself into somewhat of an intriguing reliever prospect. Henderson's just a guy.

More fun with stats. Since 2006, only 5 Astros prospects have posted a wRC+ >150 in the upper levels (AA/AAA, min 100 pa):

    Alex Bregman 176
    Yordan Alvarez 164
    George Springer 163
    Carlos Correa 157
    Jose Altuve 153

Right, but saying so definitively that the Aiken pick is the reason we got Bregman just isn't truth. Rockies were taking Rodgers, Rangers were taking the shitty pitcher (that's just what they do)
