After watching the Kings' meltdown, I know that Clutch City will be at a near overload status regarding Chris Webbers "soft" playoff performance and his value to the Rockets. Let's all same ourselves some valuable time and let Webber himself answer the question. Since the CBA limits Webbers salary and since he is an unrestricted Free Agent the answer is clear. If he's soft - he goes East and to the Knicks. If he's up for a fight, he signs with the Rockets. If he is really hard-headed and totally blames himself for the Kings' playoff implosion - he re-signs with Sacramento. It seems pretty simple to me. Let's all save ourselves some time for more productive thoughts. ------------------ GATER
So I guess that makes Mo Taylor into a fighter right? He did choose us over the Eastern teams that tried courting him... ------------------ You must always give the Dream back his change!
BGM- Aren't you kind of stretching your logic just a little? Mo was a Lottery teams' FA. Webber took a team to the playoffs. Mo listened to an agent tell him he was worth the max and Webber fired his agent. Mo chose the Rockets after the King Kong trade failed to materialize. You missed a subtle point. Mo (at the time) was looking for a place to line his wallet. Webber is looking for a way (easy or otherwise) to line his mantel. I fail to see your comparison. ------------------ GATER
Couldn't Mo have gone to Detroit? I think your oversimplifying this by saying "if he chooses east, he's soft" "if he chooses west, he's a warrior". Doesn't that mean that Olajuwon is soft if he chooses to play for an eastern team? He's not in it for the money, he wants to win like you claim Webber does. So if Olajuwon chooses to play for an eastern team, wouldn't he be soft? If Webber didn't care about lining his wallet, then he could easily just sign with NY for one of their exceptions. As far as my logic stretching, I'm just following the pattern you set. You tell me why Mo doesn't fit this description, well try to tell me how Olajuwon doesn't fit Webber's description you've given. ------------------ You must always give the Dream back his change! Webber's worn out. He sees the light at the end of the tunnel. Although he has played decently in the series, he doesn't show that "I-want-the-championship" fire. True, he isn't a defensive banger. Never really has been. But he's a short-timer; and short-timers have a tough time getting up for the big game. He will give the Rox 10 or 11 boards every night, 4 or 5 assists, 20 or more points. Soft? If 55 + wins is the equivalent of soft, then I'll take it. He will NOT re-sign with Sacramento. ------------------ [This message has been edited by ROXTXIA (edited May 12, 2001).] [This message has been edited by ROXTXIA (edited May 13, 2001).]
I think Sacremento's and Webber's season and went downhill after Webber got hurt. There was a certain swagger that was missing, and I think a certain gut that developed during the injury. Still, I think Webber is a definite impact player. He has been failed in Sacramento this series because of the inconsistent point guard play, the injuries to key bench people like Bobby Jackson and some dumb-ass coaching strategies (hello, single coverage of Shaquille O'Neal). He is franchise player and the championship formula usually includes two players who are at the top of their positions. -Elvis! ------------------

Or, "if he had any integrity and didn't want to bail on a team that had one of the best records in the league, he'd re-sign with Sacramento". Btw...when a team "implodes", it usually leads back to its best player. Gee, sounds like a guy I want on my team.
The Kings aren't imploding, just being beaten by a better team. Chris Webber has had a damn good series. If Chris Webber's teammates had showed up to play the first three games of the series, they wouldn't be facing elimination right now. That's why he will leave the Kings, in my opinion. ------------------ Charles Barkely on the Raptors defeating the Knicks in Round 1 :"I think it was the Lord. The Lord was with the Raptors.
