Good move imo - Feels like the contribution JB to the D is marginally limited from this point on, and quite predictable. - Looks like the mgmt hasn't been a fan of how retirement was handled last offseason. - Candidates can be hired gradually during the offseason, better starts early. - Probably a hedge against MDA as well so that the hire can step up and bring continuity if certain eventuality leads to MDA stepping down.
MDA isnt gonna care... the dude is all about self preservation - and his offensive stats... oh, and having a 'season to cherish - even without a championship...' ...smh...
What is it and the Rockets and their coaching decisions? Let Adelman go. Hire McHale (probably the worst hire by any Houston sports org), then JB, then MDA. Now fire another good one? Maybe they want to go the AZ Cardinal route and hire a failed college coach now. Methinks Shaka Smart is on his way to Houston! Gibberish.
Join the club. Sports fandom is a bizarre phenomenon anyway. - Being a fan of a team due to its proximity is arbitrary - Don’t know any of the players personally so why should I care (so much)? - Besides Tilman, Green, and House, there’s very little “Houston” about the Houston Rockets - Most hideous jerseys / logo in all pro sports That said, I’m not upset when Rox win. I want Harden to get his ring. He’s a good guy. But at the same time — I find it comical / entertaining when they lose or make stupid roster moves, etc. Really get the best of both worlds! =D
Bzdelik: "I dont think I want to return next year... theres no commitment to defense in player acquisition, retention or rotation..." Morey: "i'm sorry to hear that, Jeff... can we say we fired you? Ya'know, give the fan base the illusion that we take losing seriously - heads rolling... all that stuff... before we run another MDA season of regular season greatness - followed by more post season disappointment?" Bzdelik: "Whatever..."
From one guy in coaching circles: This wasn't a firing based on Jeff. It was a firing to prove the Rockets are changing it up. HOWEVER, I think the word "fire" will eventually change to "resigned." JB wasn't coming back until a few good men, and one subtraction, convinced him to re-up. I'd wait for a change in terminology. I did mention, but it's obvious, that MDA is a bit warm, too. Same guy suggested that The main reason he hasn't been let go of is because his players adore him, and James is one of his biggest supporters. ***You could argue that MDA helped James evolve into the best possible James we've seen. McHale could not get James to play like this and be a LEADER. James has pull here, and unless he releases some of it, I don't see the Rockets letting go of Mike just yet. Who knows though? Morey is the best GM in the league, but is Tillman a man of his word? Is he ready to make changes to bring the chip to Houston? James has a window, but that window closes a bit every year. James will not always be able to average crazy numbers. Tillman better let Morey bring in guys to give James the support he needs and deserves.
In Morey I trust. He will figure it out. His moves this past season shows how he can turn nothing into something.
Are Thibs and Jimmy Buckets still tight? That would be funny to reunite them. Don’t really want Thibs though, Harden would end up averaging 50 minutes per game between Thibs and MDA. I like Joeger, Messina has the Italian connect with MDA. And most importantly no to JVG, he’s the best national commentator the NBA has, we need him where he’s at.
both picks are awesome. My money would be on Lionel Hollins he is a winner and has the demeanor to get our players in line
Kinda sad to see Jeff gone, but why are some guys saying he got fired? Wasn't his contract just for this season and we basically begged him to return cause he was retiring? Oh ok, this make sense i guess.
