I was thinking this after hearing what Charles Barkley said after Beyonce's performance at halftime of the All-Star game.

What would happen to Average Gay Guy if he was put into a private room with the 'ideal' romantic characteristics (i.e. mood, music, etc.) and seduced by the 'ideal' woman, i.e. Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, the incredibly hot high school chemistry teacher, etc. Or what would happen to the Average Gay Girl if the same was done to them by George Clooney, or the 'ultimate' sexy man of that person's liking. Obviously, as a believer that homosexuality is conduct acquired through environmental influences and pressures, I think that this would be an interesting experiment and that all gay people have at least one person of the opposite sex in the depths of their minds that would 'flip' them. Of course, it's easy to just label me as "intolerant" and "naive", and that's your opinion. Just wondering, as if I don't know already, if any one had any similar or conlifcting thoughts.

What about the opposite? Put a straight man or woman in a "private room" and have the homosexual person start doing sexual acts towards the straight person. What would the results be?

What if a heterosexual were put into a room with ideal music, mood etc. And a sexy male, like Johnny Depp, or Brad Pitt, or whoever is considered a sexy male went up and tried to seduce that straight male if those heterosexuals would be tempted. Does every heterosexual have at least one ideal person of the same sex that would 'flip' them.

Padgett, would you like to volunteer for that experiment? Surely it wouldn't be too much for you to do considering you'd be willing to make others do it.

Is there a member of the same sex that would 'flip' everyone?

Amazing. Dodging a question by turning it around on the asker without answer it. Novel concept.

That is not at all my point, as you are aware. You want to conduct your experiment that way, go ahead. Certainly you can imagine my answer, and you can see that you are asking an entirely different question. My theory is that man is inherently heterosexual and by some combination of pressures/influences, a vast minority of man finds solace in deviant sexual conduct.

Ok your right that's not fair. I'll answer your question.

No that would not work. Next issue.

Basing a scientific study on a comment by Charles Barkley is not a good idea.

Barkley's quote was something to the effect that he didn't see how a man could be gay after watching Beyonce, or something to that effect.

Really? Damn, that means my blueprint for an experimental particle accelerator stemming from Rasheed Wallace' CTC interview is useless. :(

Absolutely agree with Mulder. If you have trouble believing this, you should look through the Dan Savage archives and read what he (a gay man) writes about female genetalia. He's just not interested on any level.

Many have come to believe it's just not a choice. In fact, some in the scientific community believe it's about as much a choice as skin color.

Actually if you want your experiment to be scientific you would have to do it with heterosexuals as well. You need control groups, and a wide range in order to validate your experiment.

I merely volunteered you since you feel that it's ok to take people and put them in situations that they say are against their nature.

You yourself say that man is inherently heterosexual yet you can't start conducting an experiment unless you have proven that the presumption under which you are undertaking that experiment is true.

Sir Charles also supports gay marriage and affirmative action.

It is obvious what would happen, according to my premise, if the opposite were to occur, but feel free to run that experiment if you see fit.

How do either of these things qualify as "science?"

Personally, I don't think you have any interest in science or facts. Instead, you created this thread exists solely to preach your "theory" that gays are created, not born. Rather than daring the rest of us to disagree with you, why don't you stop being lazy and actually demonstrate some proof.

It's not obvious, what would happen. If it was there would be no need for an experiment. You can have a belief about what would happen, as can others. But until the experiments are conducted nobody would know for sure. And like I said both experiments would have to be done in order to make them truly scientific.

His column is great, have you read Skipping Toward Gomorrah?

And no, that experiment would not work.

you wouldn't even have to make the guy/girl that hot, or put them in a room with music, food, weed, etc. just stick 'em in prison- works all the time.

I simply put this out for discussion, and if you think it's idiotic, say what you will or say nothing. I think it's interesting food for thought, so be it. I made no secret of my opinion, so you're proving nothing by accusing me of 'preaching'. I was under the impression that someone who starts a thread on a discussion board and indicates his own opinion was not exactly hiding any alterior motives. And before you call JAMA, this is a theoretical study, so thanks for your professional criticism.

Ok. First, in respojnse to your question: Nothing.

Second, in response to your theory, what basis do you have, as of yet?
