32. I have been arrested twice, no jail or anything...one plead down I doubled the speed limit in a speed trap when I was 18. And the other one the cop had no probable cause. Long story short don’t talk a bunch of **** to a cop even if you’re right. But I also made deliveries my entire career without problems. I’ve looked into ups actually, hopefully the obstruction charge wouldn’t be an issue, I haven’t even had a speeding ticket in years.
I'm a VPO for one of the largest employers in the world. Currently in the US alone, we have over 9,000 openings. Most of those are hourly positions, but quite a few are salaried ranging from the mid-$40K all the way to $250K. We don't typically hire machinists, but we hire a lot of maintenance techs and engineers. My region is California, Arizona, Colorado, but I'm from Houston and know the market well. Email me your resume and I'll see if we have a solid match. george.schmidt@compass-usa.com BTW, industrial wages are skyrocketing. When I was at Shell a few years back, I could have hired an entry level maintenance tech for $50K easily. Fast forward to today and we can't even get people in for an interview without offering $60's w/a sign on bonus.
@Derp McFlopsky take advantage of this RIGHT AWAY. Don’t procrastinate or make excuses. Do some quick research and watch a few videos on resumes and create one. Make sure your spelling and grammar is good and send it to @Schmidt ASAP. This is why CF is the gold standard for Internet forums. People help each other out here.
Derp - sorry to hear about your situation. I have been unemployed several times in my life and it was never a fun experience. A lot of the advice given to you so far is good, especially about contacting Dan Dorotik who can help you spruce up your resume. You might want to check job boards like Indeed.com or even LinkedIn. Do you live in an area that has a Bridgestone plant around or similar type of business? You can always try to get on at a place like that or do some warehousing like someone else suggested. Hang in there and know that it will get better. I went to college and got my degree to be a math teacher at a community college/junior college. It took me 22 years for that dream to finally happen but I am now doing what I felt like I was born to do. So never give up on a dream - wish you the best.
Just out of pure curiosity, and maybe for interest for someone else, which division of Compass do you work with?
Thanks everyone. I needed the encouragement and y’all are always good for it. Many thanks! I appreciate this. I don’t think dorotik comments anymore but he did leave a website link on his profile. I’ve sent him a line asking about his services. I literally just started working 14 years ago so I don’t even have a piece of paper that says resume at the top. Once I get it going I will absolutely send it over to you!
Do not go to UPS. The most horrible deadend job ever, imagine summer football training inside a warehouse. I worked there for 9 years breaking my body hoping to become a driver. Glad I went to school and now I get paid top dollar to play video games and watch YouTube in an air conditioned place tilted chair all the way to the back.
