Not seeing much chat about this. Harden is bringing his patented deceleration and misdirection moves back into his interior drives — getting defenders sliding more to cross-over, who are obviously expecting him to straight line into their planned defense with Draymond.

Another reason I LOVE this game so much, when we see superstars adjust like this. Pulling old tricks back out of his bag.

Post some vids to share, if you see them. I can make some today, if y’all want.

Yes i saw it. Its like he does this until defender gets swing and gets exhausted(its really hard to stay low with changing momentum at that speed). Then he attacks. Way better strategy than forced three

Harden did this and had a wide open mid range shot at the elbow, but then dribbled back behind the three point line to miss a shot.

    thinly-disguised Harden-missed-a-shot comment.

He did this pretty much all game.

From my seats, he’s doing not just for separation, like the one you bring up, but to jab stop then change direction to get to his left hand ... left side of lane.

That’s kinda new wrt combining two great things into one, jab stop with cross over

Obviously he didn’t lose it. What you’re remembering is what Harden did before Capela, when either Dwight was being a pissant about rolling or TJones and DMo were his only options. Then he shed it, because he had a more efficient overall play...make the big come to him by threatening drive the whole way.

And, imo, this isn’t the same ... he’s adding cross-over to it to get to the left, to continue driving.

That was so bad, Morey and MDA are really in his head. Like in that GoZ episode: “what if you make them?”

Yeah I noticed it too, it's actually such a sweet move because it rocks the defense back and forth. Much less predictable than a straight line drive

It's been a while, but wasn't exactly this a big part of our strategy last year against them in the playoffs? Herking and jerking into the paint for layups and dunks.

    Great post HeyP.

James continues to study and get better constantly. Continuous improvement. Not sure most people recognize that this is part of what makes him great. James doesn’t get enough credit. Most guys just are who they are. James will always find a way to beat you.

You think a wide open elbow jumper is better than a wide open 3?

you think he can teleport himself from midrange to 3?
it takes time and effort and takes you out of flow
