Mo Taylor with a rebounding small forward to make up for Mo's weakness, EXACTLY like Peja does for C-WEBB,

Let's look at Webber's numbers for the season:
    ppg: 27.1, reb 11.10, FG%: 48.1, Ast: 4.2, Stl: 1.3, Blk: 1.69

Exactly what weakness is Peja covering?

C-Webb had 24pts and 18boards last night and people were saying he had an off night. Thats how good he is.

    This is crazy!

The title post isn't too bad because it means something more to the effect, C-Webb isn't doing anything Mo won't be able to do in the future.

But as for right now, Webber is much better a player than Mo. 27, 12 to Mo's 12, and 5?

In the end, who knows? Mo might be the player we want him to be, but he isn't right now.

so let me get this straight, wed rather have a solid young pf like mo and a decent center than a superstar pf like cwebb whos a lock for 20, 10 every night..its laughable...
cwebb is a top 5 player..heck its amazing theyre this good with really only having two awesome weapons in peja and cwebb(however they have very good chemistry and team fits)..bottom line....if u have a chance at a webber type you dont run from it, u go for it.

Chris Webber is nothing but a paper lion.

You can all salivate all over his numbers from now until Hell freezes over, but until you can show me Chris Webber playing with fire, heart, and love for the game then that's all you're going to have.....a paper lion.

Sure, he puts up fantastic numbers, but does he know how to win? Karl Malone was always able to put up fantastic numbers...by any means possible, the dirty b*stard...but when it came down to it, Malone was a playoff choker. At least Malone had the desire, though. Where is Chris Webber's desire?

I don't understand why so many of you haven't learned your lesson yet. You think Quitten was just a one-time deal? You think it can't happen again? Think again, people. In a league dominated by money and over-inflated egos, a team-player with a good head on his shoulders is a priceless commodity. Chris Webber doesn't have that. He never has, he never will.

I don't presume to be able to change anyone's mind by writing this, it's obvious your minds are all made up. Oh, yes, go ahead and flame me for trying and rain on your "C-Webb Parade" as well. Show me his fantastic numbers, show me his flashy dunks and his ability to "overpower" opposing power forwards. Show me all of that...but show me Chris Webber winning and NBA championship, show me Chris Webber playing with a love for the game...then, and only then, will I be impressed.

We will never win an NBA championship with Chris Webber.

Chris Webber will never win an NBA championship.

I just thought I'd give the Webber groupies a couple of easy one-liners to highlight as a quote.

So, by all means, type away if you want to bother. I'll just let Chris Webber's failures speak for themselves. Go ahead and post his numbers up for me again. I love it. It's just a bunch of noise to me.

    The rest is silence.

When I see Webber play, it seems like sometimes he settles for that outside jumper a little too much.

My question deals with CWebb and zone defense...

I was thinking about this on my way to U of H today, don't you guys think that a zone defense would make it more difficult for CWebb to take the ball inside to the point he'd end up settling for that outside jumper even more?

All you have to do with CWebb is dare him to take a jumpshot and more than likely he'll miss it. A zone would take away his inside game, at least that's what I think, I don't claim to be an expert on zones though.

My wishlist doesn't include CWebb, I want to resign Mo Taylor and search for a defensive SF that can rebound. I love Mo's shot, it's almost automatic. Also I think Webber's peaked, he's not going to get any better than he is now, and in 2 or 3 seasons his skills will decline when Francis, Cat, and Mo's skills would peak.

We're a strong defensive 3 with a consistent shot and rebounding skills away from being a very competitive team IMO.

Yo..What?!On the reals though,Mo isn't close as a player as Webber.Webber is a straight up All Star for many years to come, and Mo is good but not as talented as Webber.Well speaking for right now.Mo is soft to me.He never goes down and bangs with the Duncans,Kg's and everyone else. He's our power foward and what avgs. like 4 rebounds?Steve avgs. move and he's our Pg,and the believe Cat averages move rebounds then he does?He aint aggressive effort, kinda soft to me.His Game is aight, but if your in the West, you gotta be more aggressive.Webber is stinking it up in the playoffs, but their playing against phil jackson D.It's tough, but he'll play big when they play at Sactown.I rather have Webber over Mo anyday. He's just that much better,he does more things for your team.Ya feel me on this?!?Bring it home.yo im out.Peace

I had no clue Phil Jackson was a defensive mastermind...

Honestly, I'd rather just keep the cap space and use it on someone else in the future that isn't as questionable as Webber is in crunch time.

He's actually shooting better from the field against LA than he did against Phoenix. 35% shooting is pretty scary for your franchise player in the playoffs...

    Gascon,

Just out of curiosity, who would you realistically like the Rockets to have at the PF spot next year?

Won't the new zone rules for next year make it more plausible for the Rockets to play MoT and SF next year?

If we could get Troy Murphy or Michael Bradley (or bulk up Langhi) combined with Kenny T to play the 4 interchangeably with MoT (depending on the particular matchups of the evening), wouldn't we be okay?

I, for one, am glad to see the NBA moving away from the emphasis on individual power and thus making coaching and team play evermore important.

"But," a naysayer will say, "Webber will never earn status as an elite power forward in the league if he can't carry his team."

By that token, Kevin Garnett is equally worthless. And Garnett has plenty of fire. Where has it gotten him?

Maybe Webber's emotionally and physically exhausted. Carrying a team that was once nothing and making it into a TV darling when you never wanted to be there in the first place? Asking to bring a championship to a city that hasn't exactly grown on you?

Yes, Webber takes too many jump shots, but that's been his game since falling out of shape with bad ankles that probably haven't completely healed.

And what if this is Adelman's strategy? We don't want our best player to foul out against Shaq (a.k.a. God Almighty?) So let's see if we draw God out from under the basket? But no! We can't! It doesn't work! As it is written: God is everywhere!

Webber looks to me like he would like some help out there; but Floppy Call-Me-Shaq's-B!tch Divac and Stojakovic and Williams haven't exactly been clutch. Even Shaq's been getting some help.

I read a section in USA Today on the current playoff coaches. Webber's quote about Adelman, while praising, was also in the past tense: "He taught me a lot; he was..." Etc.

    Hmn.

Our team won 45 games last year with an un-power forward (I like Mo, but "power" forward is misleading) and an oft-injured front line. If we sign Webber outright, Sacramento slips off the radar, and we move up. Don't forget we have other moves we can make as well.

For the first time in many, many years, Chris Webber can make his own decision about his professional, and thereby, personal life. No one's gonna exile him to Sacramento this time. (Hey, Stevie got a stay of execution from Vancouver; a certain parallel, hmn?)

Steve, Cat, Mooch. East Coast brothers. Rudy T. Michigan-born coach, good with big men.

I, for one, would be thrilled to get Chris Webber. And I would rather be a groupie than a troll.

    Gascon,

Ok, let's simplify things. Disregarding salary, what player would you rather have at the 4 spot than Webber? After Duncan who would you like? If you're going to write off Webber because his team hasn't had playoff success, then you'd have to also write off Garnett,McDyess,Jaimison,Walker and Nowitzki.Let's see, Portland got swept, so scratch Wallace off your list. You've already said you didn't like Malone. Who exactly does that leave?

Fact of the matter is that Chris Webber is one of the 10 best players in the NBA. The difference between a top 10 player and a Maurice Taylor is huge. Webber shot the ball poorly in game #2, but he's the man for the Kings, so he's going to keep shooting. In his prime, Hakeem did the same thing. It's not like Webber has been terrible vs the Lakers. He's still averaged 28pts and 13reb while shooting 43%. His team lost, but they lost because they have no answer for Shaq. No star player wins a championship by themselves. Saying that Webber (or anyone)will never win a championship is ridiculous. People use to say that David Robinson and Shaq would never win a title. Winning titles is great, but it's not the end all measurment of players success.

you know, you make some sense, gascon. i'm not sure webber alone is the answer either, but it'll be webber alone because of his cost -- and that bothers me.

but as i was reading your... uhm... rant, i thought back to 1998-9, and you know what? i would have, in fact, i did say the EXACT same things about shaq. almost TO THE WORD.

and let's face this more realistically: rocket attendance is down, a football town is about to get a football team again and the rockets need to sell seats for a brand new stadium.

if webber isn't the answer on the floor, that doesn't mean he's not the answer. the interest he'd generate for a team that's slipping farhter and farther off the sports radar would probably be worth his cost, in the rocket's mind, so i can see how and why they've become so enraptured with him.

I agree that C-Webb isn't worth a contract averaging $15 million a year. But no one is worth that kind of money. Garnett, Sheed, all of them, are making sickening amounts of money to play a child's game. It boggles the mind.

But that is the NBA landscape nowadays.

I only got to see the Rockets play three times this year, thanks to geography: no NBA League Pass! I saw them once in Houston, courtside; and twice on TV. On TV, John Thompson was talking about how the Rockets would destroy its competition if they just had a dominant post player.

Webber can play low post or high post, can pass, score, block shots, you name it. Unfortunately he'll come at a huge price. But once we take the risk, we'll put butts in the seats at Compaq Center and the new arena, and we'll be all over TV, and we'll be a winning playoff team.

Gotta unload the wallet on this guy.

How many times has it been said that Webber does NOT want to play Center? That means he does not want ot play a low post game. He has the ability, but he's soft. To say he can play the low-post game is one thing. To see him do it is another.

Why does him not wanting to play center mean that he doesn't want to play in the low post? Plenty of non-centers play in the low post. I'm guessing that he doesn't want to play center, because he doesn't want to take the pounding of guarding bigger players night in and night out.

Oh, don't misunderstand me...I don't have any easy answers for what to do with the four. What I do know, is that I don't want to see the Rockets spend every last dime and put all of their apples into the Chris Webber basket. I don't think he's worth it. If they could get him for a reasonable price, then I would be much more in the mood to let him try and prove me wrong. The same goes for Mo, if the Rox can sign him for a reasonable price, then great. I personally don't think we've seen the end to Taylor's potential. Is he going to put up the same regular season numbers as Webber? Probably not. But who knows how he'd start playing in a playoff atmosphere, when he realizes he has the ability to really make his mark in this league. I mean, I'm not pretending to know, but I wouldn't mind giving him a shot and finding out.

Centers aren't necessarily bigger players (than Webber) anymore. Your argument reiterated what I was saying. You're not going to take a banging unless you're down low. But, you said it yourself, he doesn't want to. He's soft.

Chris Webber will be a free agent, that means he gets to choose where he goes, he'll want to go to the best situation for him, this means he'd play his natural position at the 4. Name a power forward that would want to play center, Tim Duncan doesn't count.

I doubt Karl Malone, Rasheed Wallace, Antonio McDyess, Charles Barkley, and Kevin Garnett would want to play center for their teams. If they had to, they would, just like Webber has, but if they had a choice, they wouldn't be playing the 5.

Are these players all soft because they don't want to be forced to play out of position?

Even though some teams aren't playing true centers anymore, almost every starting center in the league is bigger than Webber.

Did you hear Webber on TNT last night? When told that Pollard and Divacs had admitted that their confidence in their ability to guard Shaq had been shaken, Webber replied "If they really said that, I'm surprised. But, if they don't think they can guard him, then I'll have to do it". Fact is he'd prefer to play PF, as would Duncan, Garnett, McDyess, etc...

If Webber is so soft and he doesn't want to go into the low post, then how does he manage to rebound so well? Why does every team immediately double team Webber if he's just a jump shooter?
