I was playing around on CF.net and I came across these old stats for the Rockets. When we used to have Dream, Clyde and Sir Charles. I don't think many people realized this but the averages of these three were crazy! During the '96-97 season Dream averaged 23 pt,9rebs and 3 asts. Clyde put in 18pts,6rebs and 6asts. Sir Charles gave us 20pts,14rebs and 5asts! Three players gave us on average 61pts,29rebs,and 14asts a night! The way some games look today, we get that for an entire game haha. I was too young to truly appreciate how good the rockets were. Or maybe I just took winning for granted after those back to back championships. I would start a Poll, but I dont know how to haha. Who's the best Big Three of all time? Michael,Scottie, and Dennis? or Maybe KG,Sam and Spree? Shaq,Kobe, and Glen? Feel Free to go old school on me.

I'm guessing he was born in 84 and wasn't around for any of those teams. There others too. Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman, Rick Mahorn and Bill Laimbeer made a pretty good starting line up. I wouldn't know which to call the big three. I like Nowitzki, Finley and Nash as well as I like KG, Sam and Spree though. Better considering they've been successful together for years. I wish I knew more about teams before my time because I'm pretty sure teams like the Lakers with Wilt and Jerry West probably had a third star too. I know the Bill Russell Celtics did. I'm sure there has been many great trios I'm completely unaware of...

Dream, Drexler and Charles was alot of fun though.

    Yep. This one.

That line-up was very similar to the Houston Comets situation. They essentially got THREE FIRST ROUND (1st OVERALL) picks on one team.

    1st draft pick: Kareem
    1st draft pick: Magic (Duh!)
1st draft pick: Worthy (This is not likey to happen again; a championship team gets a 1st over-all pick the following year)

1st draft pick: Tina Thomson (an actual 1st pick)
1st draft pick: Cynthia Cooper (Walk-on; 1st pick duh!)
1st draft pick: Sheryl Swoops (Pre-selected; again, 1st pick duh!)

    1st draft pick: Yao Ming
    2nd draft pick: Steve Francis
    1st draft pick: Not likely...

Mo Malone, Dr. J, and Sir Charles Barkley. If only he had gotten there at the same time as Malone, they could have won more rings, as it was the Doctor and Malone were too old.

3 players that were the 1st overall pick on the same team?

    How about the '85 Rockets?

Olajuwon ('84) , Sampson ('83) and John Lucas ('76) were all first overall selections.

1st draft pick: Eddie Griffin (allegedly, if CD had the 1st pick that summer).

HOw about Michael, Scottie, and Dennis?

They won 3 straight championships including a 72-10 season. No other team in the history of the league has won at least 70 games in a season.

The other two starters on the team were luc longley, who has had NO success in the league since the 3 were gone... and Ron Harper, who is a solid role player.

Team likes the boston and showtime lakers, they don't just have the BIg 3, they have 5 very solid players.

I was about to post, "Sheesh! No one ever wants to give any credit to the 90's Bulls". Last time I checked, that Jordan, Pippen, Rodman team had the best single season record in NBA history and 3 rings. They would have had more than that if it wasn't for the ego of their owner.

aelliott, you have to read between the lines.

Joe Smith was a 1st pick of 1995, but Garnett was the 5th pick. All drafts are not equal. There's a range of talent each year. So, you must take each draft, make your picks and then evaluate their impact on the game. Just because you are picked 1st isn't the end of it. At least, that's the way I'm interpreting "best."

Don't just pick them because they are Rockets and you must find "3 first round picks" and then leave it at that. Ask yourself, what type of players did they become? Were there injuries? Drugs problems? Are they part of the 50 Greatest list? Did they win championships?

    All those things.

P.S. Both Sampson and Lucac COULD have been great. But both had shortened careers for different reasons. Lucas is the 2nd best PG we've had. Cassell was our best, so far.

Oh, I meant 1st pick over-all. Not just first-round...CD had the 13th, 18th and 23rd picks in 2001. Traded them to NJ for the 7th pick.

But yes. EG was a very good pick, talent wise!!! If only he had kept out of trouble...

    1) Yao
    2) Francis
    7) Griffin

That's a good core line-up. Losing EG hurt us. It made us put Cato in the starting line-up...ugh. :(

Just a note...Paul Gasol was the 3rd pick that year. He was the "real" 1st pick, not Kwame Brown. Other interesting note....Zach Randolph was 19th, and Tony Parker was 28th.
