This season, Mobley's averaging 5.1 3-pointers a game - more than Antoine Walker or Dirk Nowitzki. In my mind, Cat's 3pt shot should complement his forays to the basket, not the other way around. But I understand that with Yao down low, one would like to see Cuttino get hot from outside early, but with the way his shooting has leveled off lately, I think he should be trying to drive more often.

The Rockets are 10-0 this season when Cat scores 20 or more. In my mind, three's should be the primary weapon of role players, not well-rounded offensive players like Cat. I think his three point shooting his hurting his scoring this year. (I feel the same way about Francis; that is, that the number of perimeter shots he's taking this season is hurting his scoring average. I like Jackson and Padgett spotting up from ther perimeter, however.)

well jvg wants them to dribble less and it's not easy to just get to the basket unless you're taking a guy off the dribble. cuttino was able to get the D off balance better last game, but that's not always gonna happen. i'd prefer letting our guards take it to the basket more but we're concentrating on cuttino spacing the floor with 3's and steve shooting off the dribble after coming off picks and stuff.

If the shooting guard whos shooting 40% can't take the threes, then who the heck can?

If anything he'll be taking more as Yao gets him more open looks.

not when he makes like 30 to 35 percent of them, I don't follow stats so I don't know what he is shooting but if it's close to that i think that's fair. If he's not, then he is probably taking too many.

Mobley currently has a .382 3 point field goal percentage, so he needs to take the shots, but he doesn't need to pop them right away. He just needs to move the ball around and try inside first... none of the Kobe stop and pop crap.

I think Cat should play more like he did in the Lakers game. He needs to drive to the basket more. Same with Francis. Both of them need to get to the FT line more. Dont always settle for the 3pt shot, definitely be aggressive and take it at the defense.

I'd like to see Cat used just like he was for the Laker game after the break for as long as it's working. It keeps the other team off balance and us less predictable. That might not always work depending on the opponent, but we should do it anyway, in my opinion. The Rocks should play to the strength of their players. If they get away from their defense, then Van Gundy will raise hell.

    He won't today:D

Cat is a major ++ this year. Props to Cat. And watching him destroy Kobe off the dribble was awesome. More and more JVG is posting him up and taking advantage of his skills around the hoop. I've noticed that the same thing has been tried with Francis, but with not near the success.

Ever watch Mark Jackson in his prime wasting defenders in the low post? How about Gary Payton? Cat is getting pretty good at it himself. It's all about matchups and taking every advantage.

He is shooting a high percentage, and is not crowding the lane.

I like the way Cat has melded with Yao WAY more than Francis.

Actually, you can argue that Cat and JJ MUST take 10 threes a game between them (shooting at least 33%) to keep the defense honest and stretched from the post.

The analogy to football: You must throw deep to hold the safeties back for the run game.

Of course the football % can be much lower because the relative benefit is higher connecting on a long bomb vs a three pointer, but it's precisely the same concept.
