I mean can you at least consider bunting Yuli? He has a better chance of getting out then getting on by swinging away. Surly he learned to bunt in Cuba and then you have our highest batting average up with Correa on second base. Tell me why I’m wrong
Team sports can suck at times. Verlander getting a loss because of the team's pitiful hitting effort sucks.
No it didn't. Voters demonstrated they didn't care about wins by voting for DeGrom. He and Snell were the best pitchers in baseball last year.
DeGrom's ERA was ridiculous though. And everyone knows the Mets offense was putrid. Snell had other advantages besides Record over JV. Astros choked at least Three W's for him last season. If they'd executed those, Verlander likely wins because he had some other good advantages over Snell.
DeGrom was 1.70. Snell was 1.89, and that was in the AL - and the AL East for that matter. Snell also had a 7.5 WAR vs Verlander's 6.2, despite pitching 30 fewer innings.
Dude Snell had a far superior season over Verlander last season. Those three win wouldn't have made a deciding factor.
The first question is... who was DeGrom's biggest competition ?? JV's 16-9 record with 3 more wins instead losses ---> 19-6 ... greatly helps his cause. Astros choked multiple games he was leading late. Justin led the league in more categories than Snell did. Perhaps JV still loses with 19-6, but his argument is sooo much greater.
I'm willing to discuss this in a non-combative fashion. Explain how Snell was "far superior" to JV with a 19-6 record. Verlander led the league in WHIP, K's, and GS... and *Top 2* in IP -- ONE inning behind Kluber.
I’m taking the blame on this one. I was on TV walking in the concourse at the start of the game and apparently that is bad luck
Aaron Nola, who had a 10.5 WAR vs DeGrom's 9.6. He had a 17-6 record and 2.37 ERA. He had a better case vs DeGrom than Verlander did vs Snell. Snell gave up 25% fewer runs per inning than Verlander. He did it by giving up far less hard contact than JV did.
Just depends on what stats you want to look at. Snell had a FIP a whole run above his era. Verlander had the lower FIP and had led the AL in WHIP and SO.... also Snell walked a lot more batters than Verlander. Verlander and Snell were very close.
