Court rules Michigan district maps are unconstitutional https://thehill.com/homenews/state-...s-michigan-district-maps-are-unconstitutional
I suppose the strategy will be to eat up as much time as possible with appeals and delay tactics so that there won't be enough time to redraw them before the 2020 election. It's really crazy though that these districts in all these states were gerrymandered after the 2010 census and here we are almost at the 2020 census and still haven't cured all the gerrymandering issues. Any reason to think we won't get a new crop of gerrymandered districts in 2021 that'll screw up the House for the next decade?
It’s very frustrating. We have our own internal battle going on in the attempt to have free and fair elections. Elections where the public is encouraged to vote in what should be a bipartisan effort. Instead, the GOP has done everything in it’s power to depress voter participation in our elections. It’ll catch up to them eventually, in my opinion. They can attack and put off the demographic changes they are so afraid of, but not forever. Having the Russians attacking our democracy from without via social media and other means while the trump administration does little about it is bad enough. We also see the Republican Party attacking the most fundamental component of our democracy, the right to vote, from within. Meanwhile, they are making unprecedented efforts to pack the courts with partisan judges, in the hope that they will rule in their favor. That effort will eventually come back to bite them as well, in my opinion.
